Been pondering over seeing if I can kill my CPU before I upgrade, I've been running for a few months on and off at 4.8ghz and 1.4v with no adverse affects so far. Could I push for 1.5 or would I be likely to instantly fry the chip through leakage?
Josh.

Think I found the answer anyway, I upped the ring voltage and the core to 1.45 and it wouldn't boot and hit 89c looking at the counter on my motherboard. Dropped it back to 1.4 and it's happy at 70c under load again so think I've hit the thermal limit of my 240 AIO.

It runs and has done for a while, if it fails I'll upgrade.

How are your temps and what cooling do you have?

From memory I run 4.6 @ 1.25, your post makes me want to o/c further, I didn't have much luck at higher with 1.3 though, but didn't try above 1.3

Mines the same, from memory I need 1.32 for 4.7 and 1.4 for 4.8. I have a corsair h105 think it is, 240mm aio, temps don't go above 70c under normal stress testing, anything with avx sees it to around 83. Normal gaming on BF1 which is the most CPU intensive game I play it sits around 60-65.

I can't take mine over 4.4 without stupid temps, even on a proper water loop.

I think it probably needs delidding.

vcore 1.3 (although this sees it at 1.32?) getting a stable 4.8ghz and now i have moved teh AIO rad temps are down.

what is the vcore limit on this cheap i feel like pushing for 5 ghz!!

Not sure this helps, but on my 4770K it was running delidded @ 1.44 for years. only died recently when i er, well i'm not sure, must have made a mistake with the coollaboratory ultra.

I did notice that the temps on the cores were getting higher than they were in the past, and a repaste didn't help, the second repaste as i said, helped in so far as it never went above room temp again ;)

Did you use the heatspreader or did you run it naked?

good man :D

If it's not too hot and not too valuable my philosophy is there is no such thing as a voltage limit :D
