BMW 330e advice

Why is a hybrid important when you only commute 2.3 miles? They cost more and you are only saving about 70p a day. I commute the same distance and I do it on foot, pointless using the car for that distance & there is no risk of someone whacking it in the work car park.

It's more of a tax dodge save on a company car, the BIK rates are far lower due to rated CO2 emissions. There are people out there that don't even bother plugging them in....

I thought HMRC scrapped all salary sacrifice schemes that weren't for bikes and childcare these days so there is no actual tax saving anyway? IE. it now comes out of net pay rather than gross.

Definitely a tax saving as that is how the price is advertised (the actual hit to your pocket after tax savings).

Surely it is just a NHS lease deal as deducing it from your gross salary is against HMRC rules otherwise everyone will do it and reduce their tax bill accordingly....

They tend to get cheaper rates on certain cars because they buy so many....

EDIT: just checked and you still get tax and NI savings if the car is below 75g/km Co2

As long as it's under 76g/km such as the 330e, you're all good still.

You need to make damn sure you can charge both way. My 225xe quite happily gives me single digi mpg on uphill without electric assistance. And thats a 1.5L not the 2L they have in 330e.

After 6000miles, 8 months ownership. Averaged around 49mpg, thats charging once every two days roughly. But once you go electric it's hard to go back....theres certain...civilise feeling that comes with the pure electric drive is hard to recreate with petrol/diesel car.

I think second hand is worth while considering. I got mine at 23k when it was 6 months old with 2000 miles on it. It was specced up 37k when new (excluding grant). It was a pool car for some company in manchester, clearly didnt suit the company so they got rid of it.

Yeah you will easily cover that on electric only. On the very coldest darkest days in winter I get about 15 miles electric, up to 22 or so in the summer. Personally I'll find it tricky to back to regular ICE car after the 330e, the refinement is another level. It' stonkingly quick 0-30/40 aswell.

FWIW I've done 17000 miles in just over a year (way more than I expected :() and my average is 92.3 mpg.

You will be able to complete your commute entirely on electric power with the 330e.

Careful with Salary Sacrifice - they often sound sensible but end up being expensive because a salary sacrifice on a ripoff lease is more expensive than no salary sacrifice on a car purchased yourself....
It's a pretty good deal once you factor in that insurance, tax, servicing etc. is included also.
