UberEATS

For some odd reason Facebook keeps suggesting I work for Deliveroo, and if you see some of the comments on there re. earnings and job satisfaction I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Might be worthwhile if you live in London and use a cycle and have a 100 different restaurants all using Uber within a square mile. Easy to make some easy money even if it doesn't meet NWM. But when you come to an average place in the UK where the restaurants (and customers) are to few and far between it just becomes ridiculous expecting you to go drive 19 miles. All your earnings would just go on fuel.

can't do it in your car? the food's gonna be luke warm most of the time, at best
no its on a bike or some use scooters. I have only ever seen them on Cycle bikes though as scooters will require petrol and eat into there already poor wages. Why anyone would do this job instead of using there car to deliver pizza's for Domino's or Pizza Hut for more money is beyond me.

its smoke and mirrors marketing by Uber to attract people to the job. A quick Google shows most people barely scrape minimum wage for cycling around like a madman all night when you could just go and stand in a shop for the same money.
A 'quick Google' can show you anything you want it to. Plus, UberEATS isn't by any means just a service that uses bike delivery, you can also use car or motorbike and I'd suggest that was likely the case here if the job was 19 miles away. I'd rather be driving around in a car listening to whatever music I wanted to, doing what jobs I wanted to than standing in the same shop. I'd love these kind of jobs to have been around when I was at college rather than working in Sainsburys!

about 70% use push bikes because that is the most cost effective way of doing the job. i have never seen them on anything else. How are you going to stop outside city centre restaurants when everywhere is double yellow or pay and display in a car numerous times per hour without getting a ticket?. Not to mention £4 per delivery to knacker your car is just laughable. If your one order takes nearly an hour driving to and from and then waiting for the order to be prepared you can see why some struggle to earn minimum wage especially as they cant take tips off people and have to stand around outside waiting for orders to come through on the app.
Pizza joints like Domino's pay a set minimum wage and then per delivery so a lot of there drivers with tips can earn £10p/h which is far more than Uber eats or Deliveroo.

I'm lost, a minute ago you were saying expecting someone to cycle 19 miles was laughable, you didn't even realise UberEATS was a service that used cars so why am I expected to believe anything else you say regarding how much the drivers get paid by different companies. Are you one of those many people who have an irrational hatred just because it's Uber so felt the need to discuss a service you had no clue about?

i wouldnt want a 3rd party company delivering my food, it could raise a lot of problems if something is wrong with the order

I know a guy who works for Domino's who clears on average £10 per hour with his tips. The food is always ready for him to collect and then go back out and complete 4-5 drops an hour locally in his car. Now compare that to Deliveroo and Uber. They have to stand out in the cold and rain checking there app waiting for deliveries. Then they get to a restaurant and sometimes have to wait 15-20 mins while the food is prepred then drop it off. Its all paid for through the app and they are told by the company to not accept cash tips! So say that one delivery takes an hour they are only getting £4!
Some of my local popular restaurants are all within walking distance of each other and its staggering how many of these guys are all standing outside with there push bikes waiting for deliveries ruining the view. And then they come plodding in with there stupid giant backpack's on while everyone is sat trying to enjoy a nice meal to pick up the food. I just dont get why anyone would choose to do it as a job when there are so many other ways of earning minimum wage

not just that peoples accounts on the apps are getting hacked aswell. It was in the news about someone who lives near me that got her account hacked and found out somone ordered £200 worth of food in London on her account.

You can use a car or a scooter or a cycle. Even they don't expect you to cycle 19 miles and expect you to do it in a car.

Also what's the reason behind them not allowing you to accept cash tips? What's to stop you taking it anyway if a customer gives you one.

Presumably it's no cash tips just because Uber et all are trying to get people away from using cash. Makes things too difficult, means riders are going round with cash in their pocket etc.

I used Uber eats in LA once because I didn't want to sign up to any other delivery service (was already using Uber). It was super easy as a customer, ordered from a local burger place, followed the progress of the order, saw the girl pick it up and went and stood outside my hotel. She turned up, I waved her down and I got some food. Brilliant.

I'm just upset that in London deliveroo seems to have an exclusive on all the decent places, somehow. The only places on Uber eats are dodgy fried chicken or greasy pizza/ kebab type places. :( Trying very hard not to sign up to deliveroo :p

I'd never work for either of them though. No way.

i used justeat delivery service a few times before. not the greatest experience that's for sure. can't imagine deliveroo is much different

deliveroo and the like would work well if you could deliver 2/3 orders in one trip, which may be the case in london but no chance any normal town.

you also have to consider for these guys working for deliver, they get paid per delivery, the delivery is almost always food, so they will have lets say 6-9pm with orders, then the rest of the time could be waiting 20 minutes before something comes through, and they have to hope someone else doesn't snag it first.

the only way i can see this being something i'd want to do is if 1) i'm an illegal and my friend signs up while i go do the work 2) i want to get fit and riding the bike and getting paid small amounts of money is a win win.

It's totally different.

Just Eat is basically just an online payment gateway for the takeaway everything but the payment is dealt with by the takeaway, whereas Deliveroo and UberEats are an extra link in the chain who deal with payment and then delivery.

Well, lets see, if you work for Dominos in your car you have to take into account:

- Petrol
- Increased insurance cost as your car is now used for a commercial purpose
- Wear and tear
- Drop in resale value due to lots of extra miles

With a bike you have much, much cheaper running costs as most bike parts are dirt cheap (particularly if you're working somewhere pretty flat and can use a single speed bike). I deliver for Uber on a bike and the pay is above minimum wage for me as I'm only doing it when I want to so can pick busier times. It keeps me fit and is pretty good training for all the other bike riding I do. Why on earth would I want to do the same task in a car when a bike is a cheaper, greener and healthier alternative?
