Breaking: breastfeeding woman offended, twitter outraged

Generally speaking I tend to agree but she may just be making a point in response to being unreasonably treated. There's certainly a lot of very archaic attitudes towards breast feeding around - as evidenced in this thread.

She's not been unreasonably treated imo. Certain things/behaviour are more appropriate for a private space (within the public space) Thats all. Its called civility, decorum and common decency. We are not all animals like some? Surprised you bother with a knife and fork :p

Offtopic, but it never ceases to amuse me to watch people trying to politely eat a pizza with a knife and fork. Cut it into quarters, fold the bits in half, shove it in. Job done. I'll be finished where you're still fannying about cutting off little tiny squares.

The law disagrees with you thankfully.

But why not? The thing is fundamentally the same. Exposure of the breast.
Ok for feeding it's obviously functional but why then are other bodily functions and activities which require exposure of normally indecent parts of the body unacceptable?
What is the line?

As an example I suffer from a medical condition which means pretty.much at the drop of a hat my body will decide I need to have a crap. There is absolutely nothing I can do to stop it. Normally this involves a mad dash to the nearest toilet and luckily so far I've been successful on every occasion. However I often have to plan trips etc around access to facilities. It sucks. Believe me. Why am I not free to scootle off to say a flower bed or hedge to drop my guts?

Because what you are referring to is "open defecation" and is considered a health risk to the public (poo is by far the most unhygienic byproduct our body produces). It's the same reason that dog owners are not allowed to leave poo in public spaces.

If you were to use an over-sized potty and take you poo away with you, it might be a different matter entirely.

Yep, I eat Pizza in places like Pizza Express, ASK! Italian etc with my hands.

If it's a ridiculously posh place I probably wouldn't, but I doubt I would be eating Pizza in a posh place anyway.

It's only not exposed in the normal course of events because in the normal course of events it's not exposed. There is no good reason why it couldn't or shouldn't be exposed. The whole line of reasoning is circular.

And the rights and the wrongs of societies view and general acceptance of it being wrong to expose them is another argument altogether.

Whether it's right or wrong society as a whole has molded us to cover them.

Yeah, pizza is definitely not a knife and fork job unless it's a proper Neapolitan style and far too difficult to eat with your hands.

Yet we spread it on fields and flower beds! I'm not even suggesting leaving it there. Although scooping up liquid is difficult hence an out of the way place people won't be actively present on.

Well it's hard for you to understand when all you have is your mother at home, you don't go out, you don't have friends. It's not your fault for being so insular in your mindset.

Yes i thought you would approve of the personal attack of another forum member.....but you edited it out pretty quick :p

We are not talking about that. You should read my post more accurately.

Businesses obey the law by providing a private space within the public space for such things. Its weird how they bothered to do that...if they thought it was all fine and dandy for all the mothers to do the baby changing, breastfeeding in full display on the restaurant tables.

I go to restaurants all the time...ive yet to come across one which does not have these facilities.

Really? I've never seen a 'Breastfeeding' dedicated toilet.

Baby changing, yep.
