Saw this pop up on the BBC and local news - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-40862367

In short, local residents have taken it upon themselves to vandalise peoples cars for parking on "their" street whilst they go to the airport.

One of the roads in question, Hollybush Road, looks from Google Maps to be a fairly wide residential street and whilst I do feel some sympathy if their street is turning into a car park, I can't see this is in any way a responsible way of dealing with it!

Sod permits, the only action that should be taken by the council is to erect an abundance of CCTV and take those responsible for the damage to court.

If this is how they deal with problems, why should the residents be helped at all?

Scummy thing to do, but meh - Luton, what do you expect?

I try not to judge a book by it's cover, but it's pretty difficult with Luton, what with being birthplace of the EDL

I do agree, and hope that the people who did this are caught. Last time I checked the law, as long as your car is legal (tax, MOT, insurance) and is not causing obstructions or illegally, then you can pretty much park where you like on the public highway?

I don't support vandalism at all but if I lived on a street full of people using it as a car park I would find it somewhat tiresome.

Several of our houses allow parking for permit holders only due to the proximity of a hospital, without this system we would find it harder to rent them out since the street would be swamped with cars.

I can understand the peoples frustration, however smashing someones windows is not the answer.

Reading stuff on Facebook sounds like someone wrote on the cars and then a few days / weeks later the local youth got bored and contributed to the cause by bricking the windows.

Seems some of the cars had been there 4 weeks+

Just need to wait for the next "meet and greet" parking company scandal, servicing Luton airport, leaving cars on residential roads

Totally justified if official routes have been taken by the residents and subsequently ignored.

After hitting national news I predict Hollybush Road will all of a sudden become a lot quieter and a proper system introduced.

Why is it justified, they aren't breaking any laws but it's ok to break the law if you feel aggrieved?

I hope the next time you park on any street in front of any home someone does the same to your car. It's OK though, they will have been well within their rights.

How is it ? If it's being abused and used as air port parking then the council should sort it out. Not for residents to go and smash cars. If you feel that it is justified, next time you park up in a residential street I hope some draws a big willy on your bonnet.
