Another eBay issue - why do I bother

I sold a Huawei P10 on eBay as I couldn't find any interest in it elsewhere (admittedly I didn't try selling it here). It was fully working when I sold it and I remember thinking how good the fingerprint sensor was (this is relevant - see below).

I sent the item to the buyer via Special Delivery and it arrived on the 8th August. All is good so far.

I received a return request today and here is my small dialogue with the buyer.

What do I do here? The fact it doesn't work "sometimes" I don't believe is valid grounds for calling the phone faulty.

You suck it up because Paypal will refund them anyway, get the phone back stick it on the MM.

Sounds like they wanted to test it and found it they don't like it so using that as an excuse.

Sadly Ebay will no doubt favor the buyer.

No, at least that way there may be the smallest chance that you'll be one of the few they employ a bit of common sense with.

Yeah keep it civil and hope you don't get a his old broken phone in rwyrn where the scanner doesn't work.

Causing a hassle will only make the buyer more likely to shaft you

I know exactly where the scratches are/were on the phone and I have tonnes of pictures of the device. I will know if it has been changed, I am sure.

Apparently I have to pay returns postage?
You will know maybe, but if you do get a different phone back, eBay won't accept a case on the basis of 'I know it isn't, the scratches are different' :p
