Looks good. The button chrome surrounds fit the dashboard OEM styling too. Best way.

Oh yeah it does, didnt even realise that :) It does look good, I am happy with it. Sat in my car outside my house for 3 hours last night playing with it, mainly waiting for downloads to complete... for google maps...... to use offline...... What android apps do you Android users use for Sat Navs to be used offline?

looking good!

I use waze most of the time or tom tom go.

used nokia HERE maps too which is pretty decent.

I would say stick with online mapping like Waze for better routing around traffic..

Yup have your phone set up as the wireless hotspot and you're good to go for data with Waze etc. Unless you have a USB dongle for a 3G dongle or something else.

Looks good - hope it keeps going unlike my Xtrons one-- I have been looking at one of those but shaped to fit my Focus - and I have one question about sat nav.

My other one used a micro sim card so it was handy for wife and myself - She doesn't have a smart phone and mine is only calls only so no data - So how would I go about using phone maps - Do I need data or not - this is only thing stopping me at moment from ordering one - and they have sold out but that's beside the point. - I can wifi phone to PC and all that but it's the other bit's I can't grasp - I have sent a message to eonon asking if they sell nav cards or can the nav card from Xtrones work on it -That would be perfect - but no reply yet.

Thanks

So you have no data on your phone at the moment so can't hotspot to the unit from what you've said.

The solution is one of two things.

Add data to your phone contract so you can then hotspot to the stereo, or use offline maps such as via Tom Tom, Here Maps etc.

The other solution is to plug in a USB 3G dongle to the stereo and it will automatically get data. That does mean signing up to a data package for that purpose though. Any Android stereo will recognise a data dongle and just work out the box. I use a Huawei 3G one.

Three have a 200MB free a month pay as you go sim which you could also use if that's the option you choose.

I used to use google maps with my phone and just hold it in my lap or rest it facing me in the cup holder...... reason I wanted this stereo was for a good sat nav..... you know like standalone sat navs, they dont have any internet and they work fine..... so I was hoping for something as good or better in the form of an app for this stereo?
If I need to be connected to the internet then I may as well just use google maps on the stereo like I was on my phone.... a little disappointed so far with the sat nav side of things but havent exactly tried it yet

Standalone units rarely get updated, and if they do it's a long wait between updates. Offline nav apps get updated more often, that's why they're much better.

You do need data to update them, download the latest maps etc. Like I said, TomTom and Here Maps, even Google Maps allow you to store local map data for standalone use, which is then updated every now and then when you connect to WiFi in you driveway.

The benefits of not relying strictly on standalone mapping is that you get real time traffic and camera info as well as road works and other incidents, something that standalone solutions don't have.

Install here maps then and it'll work. Or Tom Tom go. Both are offline navs, you'll miss the traffic info and speed cameras etc.

Yeah I have the WiFi as I was sat in car downloading google maps last night, lots and lots...... Tested this morning driving to work.... Didnt give me any voice guidance offline though, only weird DING sounds whenever an action was needed etc... I know being online on my phone there is voice guidance but doesnt seem to be offline even with the maps downloaded. Checked settings as well, everything looked right but nope... so thats no good.

Do these online sat navs use much data if I was to use my mobile as a hot spot?

Cheers

Old standalone sat nav I used had speed camera locations built in and warned me prior, no live traffic info though which is understandable

Some do, can't remember now if here maps or Tom Tom go does because I've been using Waze for a while. But if you search in playstore for an offline sat Nov you'll find a few options. Including copilot

Yeah those built in databases will be old. New ones are always popping up, as well as mobile ones that move about different locations. This is where Waze comes into its own, because the community reports them, and you instantly get it popping up on your map with a message if you're about to get in-line of one.

Thanks for the heads up - My Ford sat nav is now 7 yrs out of date - I can get update from 2014 but it's 200 quid - The Xtrons packed up and now my Ford one is radio only -CD and USB have packed up- It might just pay me to get a sat nav only but didn't want another gadget on dash or screen-

If I parked outside the window next to router would unit pick up wifi? - No -- I need a sat nav card.- don't want to mess around - be OK if I knew what I was doing Grr!

Going out now to book it in for MOT - nearly forgot.

Well actually before I asked you guys, I did as usual do some googling last night while I was downloading the google maps for offline use (I dont like the idea that they expire and you have to update every 30 days)..... So I did some googling, one recommended on one article was called... MapFactor

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator&rdid=com.mapfactor.navigator

Tested this just now from work to home, it is better than google maps offline to say the least. Dont know how it compares to Tom Tom Go & Here Maps.
The other one recommended in the same article which no one here mentioned is called GPS Navigation and Maps Sygic which is powered by Tom Tom
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sygic.aura
