Summer Transfer Window 2017/18 - Rumours & Signings

Why would Isco leave Real?

Saying that we should go for him does not equal saying he would come. All it takes to make an offer is to pick up the phone, takes no more than 5 minutes. Most likely he wouldnt come but until someone picks up a phone nobody would know for sure. He who dares wins Rodney. Doesnt do any harm to try and after all, who knows what the situation will be this time next year at Real.

Wouldn't liverpool just be better off finally buying southampton to avoid all the faff when they inevitably want half their team every summer.

Oh ok, you should ask for a group deal on Varane as well then, he'd certainly sort out your CB problems.

Let's get this thread back on track.

It appears as if Barca are using the same tactics with Dembele & Dortmund as they've tried with Coutinho & Liverpool. Lots of reports originating from Spain claiming a deal for Dembele was imminent and would be announced in a matter of hours, however Dortmund have released a statement confirming a bid was made but that it didn't reflect Dembele's ability or the state of the transfer market and as such has been rejected.

There have been reports saying that Barca want Coutinho to kick up a fuss to make a transfer more likely, which as yet hasn't happened however it seems like Dembele is more willing to play ball. Dortmund's coach confirmed that Dembele didn't turn up for training today.

While I don't like or agree with what Barca are doing, everyone has them over a barrel now. The only way they might get something resembling value is if the player kicks up a fuss.

£100m+ for Coutinho, £120m+ for Dembele, neither of which are that amazing, and the latter is still relatively raw. Crazy.

Its certainly been a crazy crazy transfer window..I still cant get over the fact that someone has paid 200m for a footballer, just a footballer. Not a surgeon or a fireman, but a footballer. Bonkers.

Mark Zuckerberg is worth £70 billion. What's Facebook really? A blue version of Bebo? :p
It's always been the same and it'll continue to be, the top 1% completely strip everything else..

Dembele has now gone missing, missed training and been suspended from Dortmund lol

Dembele and Coutinho are both very good players, but £100 million or more seems like crazy money for either of them. I guess it's because clubs know Barca have plenty of money to spend and teams are bending them over.

It only gets passed down the line, everyone then knows Liverpool with have money and before you know it they have spent it on the next Carrol or Downing. Liverpool will obviously be aware of that too which is why they have to keep hold of him as long as they can. But they are a selling club like most of the top half of the table and will continue to get picked apart each year when they have a star like anyone else that can't pay 300k per week in wages.

They had their day and did the same back when everyone thought paying John Barnes 12k per week was utterly horrific. Now they like most of us don't have the resources to hold onto top players, or lets face it the climate. In the 80s most the players where British so you were more likely to hold onto them.

I hope they do manage to hold onto him or we have to suffer a load more videos from scouse celebs asking for their club back, despite the owners doing a pretty decent job.

These values (not that Liverpool have placed a value on Coutinho's head) are based on the prices of transfers that have been paid and what it would cost to sign a replacement. Utd have committed to spending £90m on Lukaku - nobody can argue that Coutinho or Dembele aren't better players/better prospects than Lukaku. £50m on Kyle Walker - same story. Liverpool tried to sign Keita from Red Bull and were willing to spend over £70m on him but Red Bull were having nothing of it - this is a player that's had 1 season of top flight football in a decent league.

If either Dortmund or Liverpool sold, who would like sign to replace either player? Anybody they go for either won't be nearly as good or will cost far more. I look back at when we signed Salah and £35-40m seemed fairly expensive. If we sold Coutinho and been trying to sign Salah now we'd be paying £50m+. Selling clubs will always point to the transfer fees of other players when making their demands and it's not something new either. I can remember Villa demanding £18m for Barry because that's what Liverpool paid for Mascherano.

I think we're reaching a stage where so many clubs have so much money that the only way you can buy somebody for a reasonable fee is if their contract is almost up or you have a willing seller. Very few clubs need to sell players any more.

I don't know of any surgeons or fireman who have millions of people across the world watching them working or who have image rights etc. I agree that the values are crazy but the concept isn't difficult to grasp.

Yeah more than anything I think it's because very few clubs need to sell, due to having plenty of money, and also not wanting to sell because they would be unlikely to find an adequate replacement. I think the only way Coutinho or Dembele will leave is if they force their way out by burning all bridges at their current club, which appears to be what Dembele and VvD are trying to do.
