My sister is looking at picking up an RC Off Roader for my Nephew. She (or I) have a clue about these so can anyone help her out. Budget is about £70/£100. Battery powered is fine. Thanks

RTR = Ready to run. Anything not RTR will range from a kit requiring assembly, radio, receiver, servos, speed controller, batteries and charger, to simply requiring batteries.

Go RTR, much less head ache.

Anyone have experience with the Basher Bad Bug v2?

Avoid Hobbyking for cars and definately avoid them unless you can buy from their UK or EU warehouse (assuming you are in this region). They are great for batteries, servos, motors, bits and pieces etc (UK/EU shipped).

You want a 1/10 scale really as its much more capable. The mini 1/14-1/16 or smaller scale are fun but easily get caught up off road, even in shortish grass.

I would also avoid Lipo for someone young and not used to dealing with them.

Finally, you want something with good, local spares support.

Budget Brushless are rarely best value and would be lost on younger kids and often are too quick as a first proper RC.

Thus this which has already been linked to is by far the best option. Just add a quick charger and additional battery.

You will most likely need to keep another £100 spare to buy all the parts he breaks ;)

As RC cars can end costing a fortune very quickly..

2wd Stadium truck would be my choice for him:

simpler than the 4wd, less to go wrong and wear out, also a lot tougher on the front end (when he crashes!) easier to upgrade and maintain with a simple 3 gear transmission. Being a stadium truck it'll work on all surfaces and the fatter tyres have a lot move give.

That would be my choice.

You want something that's from a proper model shop ideally or from a major brand like Tamiya, Associated, or Kyosho so that you can actually buy spares when it breaks.
Cheap RTR buggies from Amazon will be a nightmare for spares.

One of the main factors I see is sourcing spare parts WHEN it breaks. I really cant see her spending over £100 though unfortunately.
