Hey guys,

Exciting times for me, I had an issue with my old car (Ford Focus 1999) it failed MOT, and failed so hard it was time for me to buy a new car...

On Monday I am paying for this lovely new VW Golf, it is a massive upgrade to what I had originally, it has aircon, yes my other car didn't have aircon and the windows were broken, so this is a massive upgrade for me! :D

When sitting in the driver's seat it felt like a spaceship in comparison to my old car, and I am excited to get something modern!

Here is a couple of photos of the car:

I am looking to get a dash cam, particularly the Nextbase 512GW and looking to buy from Halfords and also getting them to hardwire it in the car. - Is this a wise choice?

My car doesn't have sat-nav included, I am not too bothered as I use Google Maps on my phone but I was wondering if there is a way of upgrading it without it costing too much so it is built into the car? Or does things get a bit too tricky?

As I am buying this car on Monday from a VW dealership, I've already knocked the price down by knocking off £500, is there anything else I could get from them, I am paying out a lot of money, and I understand that I am getting a really nice car, but obviously I want to get the most for what I pay.

I have asked for some nice new car mats to be included, as I noticed the car didn't have any at all. Is there anything else that I should try and get included in the sale?

I am excited to receive this car, it has been far too long where I've had quite an old car for 5-6 years. Now I am finally buying something I like. So this thread is more of a "omg I got a new car, I want some little advice!".

Thanks for your help. :)

If you were set on having integrated nav, I believe the dealer can offer you the Kenwood GVN-MIB1 unit.

No idea on cost though.

I may just stick with Google Maps on my phone, I think a dash cam is probably a good idea, and it seems like everyone is getting them.

I've been tempted by dash cams lately (though the only time I needed one for an accident on a roundabout, I just bluffed that I had one and the other party backed down).

I like the look of the ones that replace the base of the rear view mirror and wire into the auto dimming functions power, neat install that way and looks OEM+

You could also purchase a MID2 satnav with the brain unit however you would need the protection removing. A costly option at around £500. Looks really smart. I recently purchased a Golf for Mrs Johnson. We decided on the R having tested pretty much everything else (cupra, m135, S3) it's our third golf. Great cars.

Was looking at the 1.4 TSI SE myself recently and I also have a 99 Focus.
However it's passed its MOT this week no issues and it drives well so I think I'll be keeping it for now.
Enjoy!

Very nice glad you are pleased with it the Nextbase dashcam is a good choice, Halfords hard wired my Nextbase into my Golf last April & made a good job of it.

Also worth noting is that Nextbase will be releasing a rear facing camera (for the back window) around September time, it will plug straight into the 512GW so if you feel that you are not covered at the rear it would be a nice upgrade to the front cam.

Hope this helps

Cheers all

You are going to love the adaptive cruise control.

If you don't get halfrauds to hardwire your dash cam in , I can provide the info you need to wire it all up problem :D

Enjoy

Last time I looked it was pretty expensive, can't remember the price exactly but iirc from my memory, it was something like £500 or so.

Enjoy the car mate! I have the 1.6 diesel at the moment and its brilliant! If you want any help wiring in the dashcam let me know!

5UB just so you know, that's a CD player not a magical card hider.

Haha, I was going to wedge my deck of cards in that slot, glad you warned me! :p

If my 1999 Focus didn't fail, I'd probably would have still been driving it for another year! It's been a great car and I will miss it. :)

That's good to hear! I think I will get Halfords to do it then, I wouldn't know where to start, and more importantly I wouldn't trust myself! :D

I went from a similar aged Ford Focus to a golf many years ago.The difference in quality especially in how they drive was very noticeable. Enjoy :D

This is music to my ears! :)

Never had cruise control before, sort of scared that it is adaptive, what if it didn't slow down. - I will probably just use it for long motorway driving.

I am going to skip the sat-nav, any other upgrades I should maybe consider?
