Buying painkillers at Sainsburys

You think that's bad? I'm not sure if it's changed now due to the silliness of it, but a couple of years back Wilkos used to require the assistant to verify your age when buying spoons.

I had to get authorisation buying sugar syrup once... I guess because it was in the alcohol section, they assumed it must be alcohol

Maybe it was just an issue in Florida and NYC but paracetamol seemed to be impossible to purchase when I was stateside.

When I had a screaming headache ( probably heat stroke of some sort) from walking around theme parks all day I had to take something else.

No such problems with drugs in India. You can buy pretty much anything (antibiotics, anabolic steroids, methadone etc) straight over the counter here....no prescription necessary, zero questions asked and whatever volume you want.

As people have said, the forced physical encounter with another person puts people off (even if only slightly). When I worked in retail, you'd get the occasional people try separate transactions though.

it's sold as acetaminophen and I have always had no problem locating it.

I've always said this, if I wanted to OD on that kind of stuff go to the 99p store, then Superdrug then Boots, or just shoplift considering I'll be dead (hopefully). I understand the idea behind it but it's flawed, massively.

Its not about stopping people from trying to commit suicide, it is only to tick a box on a piece of paper and cover yourself.

This is the motivation for pretty much everything.

For example in certain boroughs in London, due to excessive drunk people there is a policy to restrict the % alcohol in beer and cider to a limit of 5.5%

And the loophole for that, if you wish to sell cider or beer stronger than 5.5%....... it has to be in a glass bottle.

So now if you complain about drunk people in various places in London, and ask what is being done, they will tell you about various measures they have in place (example above). And a lot of other stuff (all equally useless)

The alternative name would be the issue I had then.....when I spoke to the pharmaceutical guys in CVS, Publix and Walmart they had no idea what I was talking about.

They wouldn't know if they are ordinary shop people. The International approved name (INN - International Non-Proprietary Name) is paracetamol though, so a US pharmacist or doctor should know the official name as well. There are universal naming protocols now to avoid this scenario. Paracetamol/Acetaminophen was named before they were in place.

In the supermarket it was a normal joe bloggs working the floor, but in CVS I spoke to the pharmacist in two stores and they had no idea. I even had an empty packet on me from the UK that I picked up on my connect to show him....no idea.

They sell it under a different name.

4 packs of ibuprofen containing 64 tablets is 16 days worth!

For a wounded gum, which would heal very quickly, why not just buy 1 pack of paracetamol (better for pain relief) and some medicated mouthwash and if it hadn't healed after 4 days buy another pack?

That is poor, an ordinary Joe Bloggs no problem. But a pharmacist should know. I'm amazed he didn't look it up then & there he immediately would have discovered what it was. I've worked with N American doctors both here & overseas. Even when they first arrived they knew what it was. Paracetamol is believed to be in the top 10 most consumed drugs on the planet. Only a handful of countries use the US name for it. It is also one of the most common drugs we see in overdoses.

If it's anything like me, I might as well swallow a sugar cube instead of paracetamol.
It does nothing at all :/

Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, which can provide better relief for gum/tooth pain. If it's bad, jsut chug some paracetamol down you as well.

Or be a man, just get the Scotch out.

or 1 day per pack, maximum recommended dose is 3200mg which is one pack.
also paracetamol is not better for most people, its effectiveness is extremely low and if you find it benefits you it is fr more likely to be a placebo, which it only just nudges past in studies.
but its amazing how many people go this doesn't work for me then carry on buying it, or buy the big brand names when the no brands are a fraction of the cost and contain the identical stuff.

I can only understand the first bit of that (barely), and Google translate is just cheating :p

The cats are sub-human and should become dead, in order that you out (?) your something something to something.

That's probably all wrong. I should have concentrated (no pun intended) harder at school.

pretty much, i google translated it myself so it's probably not perfect german, but you've got the general idea...

Living the dream those Indians

I went to the US years ago and took what I thought was enough Veganin painkillers - they always worked well for me - I ran out and went to local chemist - Gave her the Veganin box and asked if they sold anything like this - Good God no she said - do you get these over the counter - she looked aghast when I nodded.

Needless to say I didn't get any.
