inspired from the other time travel thread thought it could be fun to ask the same question but a little more open.
so the rules are you have a one-way time machine- once you go somewhere that's it you're stuck there and will have to live the rest of your life there.
you can bring anything that you can carry on your person, but it has to be things you actually own, so no selling all your possessions and lugging a suitcase full of gold, and you'll need to be wary that if you go too far your money won't be valid.
you can go forward or backward in time and there's no limit as to how far, however the machine is limited to re-appearing in the same geographical location on earth as it departed, so if you leave from the top of the Eiffel tower and travel back before it was built expect a long drop.
you'll obviously be a stranger to the new time, so you'll need to integrate into the new society long term, and be wary that flashing modern fancy tech in the middle ages might well get you accused of being a sorcerer and burned at the stake.
so, where do you depart from, when do you go, and what do you take?
me, i'd go forward at least 200 years. would be great to see how far humanity could advance in that time but i wouldn't want to go so far that i'd end up being some kind of museum exhibit, and that my current modern knowledge would at least have some applicable uses. i'd take what few items of value i have- old pocket watches etc and hope that their value in the future will have appreciated enough to get me some starting capital for my new life, although i doubt i'll be a millionaire.
