Lovefilm by post will be closing on the 31st October 2017 :(

This is a huge shame, as I rent a lot of Blu-rays. They provide the best quality and extra content. Not sure what to do now as I don't want to buy them?

I had no idea that they still operated! I used to have a two disk subscription back before Netflix became a thing. The odd scratched disk aside I used to love it. I remember spending far too much time agonising over my lists though.

Unfortunately it may just push you into streaming. Since I stopped worrying about getting the very best in quality (only ever watching blu ray quality films) I've really enjoyed streaming services, the possibilities are endless!

I really notice the difference when I watch Blu Ray over Sky HD the darks in particular are poor with Sky on my TV, not so with the same content on Blu Ray. The other thing is none of the streaming services to the best of my knowledge have anything like the width of LoveFilm by post. This will definitely push me to buy more of the less mainstream films I want to watch. I'll miss doing a few months on then rest then a few months on catching up on Blu Ray but it was bound to happen.

Stopped using it when Amazon took them over, dropped the LoveFilm by post and upgraded to Prime (they kept sending me discs for series in the wrong order which was annoying to say the least)

I notice the quality when watching blu rays on the projector. There are some real bargains on eBay just now for blu ray discs.

I'm left feeling a bit desperate after hearing this news as I'm currently on the 2 discs/unlimited plan. This was my main source of new films as I don't go to the cinema often and I'm unsure what the best option is now....really enjoyed the freedom and ease of use dvd via post gave. (yes I know this makes me sound ancient...I'm not!)

Dropped the sub years ago. I never got the films I really wanted to see, and series came in the wrong order.

I've seen a few people recommending Cinema Paradiso.

I stopped using them when every new film would never get delivered and i'd get all the lowest priority films from my list.

Never used Lovefilm rental service as always slight concern if the disc went missing in transit, but they were the last source for renting actual discs at least round here. Been several years since Blockbuster went down and no-one stepped up to fill the gap for "High Street" DVD/Blu-ray rentals. Presumably no money in it anymore. Years ago every corner shop had a rack with the main blockbusters to rent.

Well that is sad. I mean not for me personally - heck, I had no idea such things still existed in this day and age, but it is sad to see the true end of an era (the whole renting of a physical game/DVD). I used to love going into Blockbuster back in the day and browsing.

Unless it changed, if one went missing, you just reported it and they wrote it off. If your account had this happening regularly though, they'd probably investigate. I'd imagine they lost a lot of discs through chancers.

Lovefilm used to be your best bet to get new "home" releases. They seemed to get them quicker than any streaming service. I wonder if Netflix/Prime etc will get new releases quicker now?
