Good luck to all of those who are waiting for A-level results tomorrow. Hope you all get what you need :)

Our youngest son is (at least giving the impression of being) way too laid-back about it all. Just us poor parents that are already nervous wrecks for the morning. :o

I needed AAB and didn't get that by a long way. Ended up at alternative but still decent uni and am happier than ever.

It is amazing how quickly the results become irrelevant. It's never ever come up in a conversation because nobody gives a **** quite honestly.

Good luck everyone, hope you get the results you want :)

But dont be surprised when you are no longer muddle cuddled by the education system and you are out their in the real world.

Well, my son is just off to pick up his results, but he's checked on the UCAS site and he has got his first choice, so all very happy and relieved here :D

Ended up getting AAA (maths physics chemistry), first choice uni and first choice accommodation so I am a happy child today :)

I believe they've changed A-levels from modular to now just having final exams at the end of two years. Seems like that would be more difficult/dependent on the day to me. Good luck to all, anyway!

Congrats Shivy!

To those who don't get what they hoped, I ended up with a CDE which lets face it is bad in anyone's books but it's never caused me any issues.

I remember this.

Being asked to sit down rather than just being handed the result papers was a bad start!

A strong thought and feeling of 'ah ****!'.

Then a sense of confusement after getting an offer for a course at my 2nd choice that wanted AAB at the time. It always made me laugh when people at the start of the course would ask what A-levels you got and when I told them the look on their face was priceless.

And now many years later you know just how little they really matter.

I think thats about what i got and as you say it caused me no issues. All they're needed for is to get you to the next stage, then they're forgotten.

Well done to everyone who got the results they needed.

Sadly my son managed to not get his required results but he has been offered a foundation year by his first choice before then taking up his original offer next year (depending upon the foundation year). The major negative I see with this is that it's another 1 years worth of tuition and accommodation fees.

Has he tried ringing unis for clearing places? Probably better than doing a foundation year - or take a gap year and get a full time job to build some funds for uni should he need a car or something like that
Lessens the debt and he can retake the exams next year

Not really true. I got terrible A levels but still got into uni (15 years ago now), got a BSc, went on to get an MSc, but despite getting good degree results I still got asked why my A level results were so poor at job interviews. It wasn't a problem really and most of the time as I was honest and said that I simply didn't put the work in at the right time (but that I got my act together during my degree). Very often, the interviewers said something like "oh yeah, my son did exactly the same thing..." Didn't stop me getting any jobs, but to say they are irrelevant isn't true.

He hasn't done anything yet. Does he have to reject the foundation year offer before ringing around (Uni's or clearing?), can he ring his second offer (which he still failed to meet the requirements) directly or does he have to go through clearing. For some reason he has his heart set on his first place (Leicester).

Apologies for the questions, I know absolutely nothing about the university system.
