Anyone got some ideas on a really good power supply under £50?
All am looking for is all black wiring, not the evga ones where the black cover over the wires is see through, pure black down to the plugs..
I can find ones that are black up until the last 2 inches then u can see the wire colours, i dont want one of them i want the sleeve to go all the way to the plugs..

oh and quiet would not go a miss either :)

anyone got any good recommendations?

You are not going to get a good quality psu for £50 or less. That price limits you to psu's built by budget oems such as HEC who at best are mediocre and I wouldn't buy a psu that the likes of them have built. If you have a decent psu already and have enough space to hide the extra cable length how about using cable extension which plug onto the ends of your existing cables? They are not psu specific, are reasonably priced and you would only need to purchase for the cables that are actually on view. I have some Phanteks and Bitfenix ones and they are excellent quality. See OCUK's cable extensions here.

I have seen some "poor" recommendations recently but have bit my tongue as I will probably upset even more people than I have in the past. It just comes across as people just not getting it or just don't care when it comes to the psu. It is not the place to save money. Sometimes I despair on this forum because no matter how hard we try to alter peoples perception to the importance of the psu, sometimes it seems to be all for nothing. :(

You certainly do your best pasty - but you're wise not addressing every post as you would probably cause yourself a lot of grief. Too many fires to put out...

But, I personally think your drip-drip effect is working (certainly isn't for nothing) - i notice your slight of hand in a lot of posts. It's subtle but it's there within other users replies and recommendations - or reservation of choice. Myself included - you'e made me gem up rather than recommending the same-ol' same-ol'.

It's working bud - keep banging that drum. :)

I certainly do not cheap out on the power supply, never have i, you can look at my previous posts for proof of that.

At the very least i have spec as the lowest are semi-decent power supplys.

This is an example of what power supply i'd recommend, this is a half decent power supply imo.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £52.49
(includes shipping: £10.50)

You wouldn't like Carey Holzman, a famous American youtuber who builds computers. I've seen him put a Corsair CX in a $3000 machine. He says it doesn't matter because all powersupplies eventually fail. :D :p

He's great. He yells at commenters in his live streams and once gloated about refusing to go to a client's server room because it was easier to tell them to turn the server off and back on again rather than get in his car and go down there.

Oh and he puts ITX boards in ATX cases because 'Murica.

OP just get a decent or keep your current decent powersupply and if the cables arent the color you want get bitfenix alchemy or another brand of extensions in the finish you want.

Cheap powersupplies are bad.

I wasn't singling anyone out lltdaniel - was just acknowledging pasty's efforts. :)

The Cougar isn't a great example though - it's why I was very non-committal in my initial post.

But sometimes - as Micky said - you have to work with the budget you're given - some budget's can't be adapted - all you can do is give an added caveat.

Did I mention any names? No, so why attack me? I can't even recall seeing your username before. For your information that Cougar is just another crappy budget HEC built model. If you check reviews the vast majority of Cougar's psu's score 7-8.5/10 (most in the 7-8 range though) and I wouldn't want one of their units anywhere near one of my pc's or one that I have built for anybody else. I will never recommend a psu that I wouldn't be 100% happy to use myself. The psu is not a place to save money. Buy a good one and it will last a long time and through several upgrades.

I didn't intend to attack.

I mean, it almost revolves around my self, if i was in that position etc, nothing to do with your self as i didn't read your post till now hah.

edit

I must say sorry for my behavior.
