Dipping my toes into the Gaming PC world

Well I got all my bit's and pieces delivered so thought Id update. Being a complete noob I took my time over the last few days to put it together.

Few thoughts so far.

The case I ordered is HUGE. Once I had all the components bolted in there is so much free space. Should have researched the case a bit more but it's not a big deal as it will sit in the corner.

Assembling everything together was very straightforward. Just followed the manuals no problems.

Installing the OS is where I failed. I could not download a Windows 10 ISO onto a flash drive from my old windows VISTA laptop so I had to visit my local computer repair shop to get the ISO installed on a flash drive. I managed to work my way thought the OS installation process no problem after that. The computer hung up a few times on install but got there in the end.

I have increased the frequency on the DDR4 via the BIOS which was simple. The word overclocking scares me so going to leave that for another day.

Monitor looks great on 1440p but only I have only manged to watch a few you tube videos for test purposes so far.

Currently going through the laborious task of downloading drivers. Not sure if that's required but thought it best get the most up to date versions.

Still waiting on a desk being delivered next week so no gaming until then. But I have registered on STEAM and downloaded PUBG in anticipation.

Only one issue I have spotted so far is the 1TB HDD is not showing up in Windows (it shows as boot option in Bios). Not sure if it needs formatted or something? More investigation required.

Cheers

Nice one mate, You enjoying it :)?

Yes mate I am. Just not had enough time on it yet with work and holidays.

I am having an issue setting the ram frequency in the bios at the moment. When I try to set it to 3200 the computer won't boot windows so I have to leave it in auto.

The desk I ordered not quite deep enough. It's manageable bit suspect I'll never be happy with it so best solution is probably to wall mount the monitor so it sits further back so that's another job to do.

Mouse and keyboard gaming is still alien to me however

Don't set it manually :) there are many things that need changing with ram. However you should have what are called XMP options available. Select XMP 1 for the full speed profile.

edit : Also don't feel like you are forced to use mouse and keyboard ( sure use it and get used to it and you wont look back ) but you can always use a controller or other options as you wish. This is pc.. you do what you want not what a company decides.
