Today the wife wanted the car to go to Ashwood nursery (Garden Center) near Kinver in west midlands - As it's a 45 mile run and touching side of Wolverhampton I said I will come with you and drive - We took long way round because of the V festival at Weston Park and got there about 10.20-- The car park was full and overflow field was filling -- Wife settled me down in cafe - got me a brownie and pot of tea and patted my head and said sit till I come back - Well what an eye opener - The average age must have been 65 -- It was like sitting in dining room of a nursing home - Said to mrs DXP55 we will have to come more often to get me used to the nursing home mentality -- To be honest I found it sad that this is what we can expect at end of our useful life of work and grind.

On a good note they did make a good pot of tea but the brownie was way too much for me - must be getting old.

All in all I did have a good day out - or to put it another way I wasn't bored watching life passing by me.

Got home and got 18v circular saw out and did a bit of alterations to plant pot store - Used impact driver to good effect also.

Life can be grim at times.:D:D

Garden centres are great though. You do get a significantly nicer clientelle than most shops in town. :)

My mrs and I do often go there with the kids. The old people are always keen to chat and engage with the them!

I people watch in supermarket as well - Why do women always have their bag over one shoulder and empty trolley with one hand - Me - I would put bag in trolley and use two hands but women hold that bag as though their life depends on it.
Then you see the fat ones -mother-daughter and grand daughter unloading fizzy pop and mega size bags of crisps.

People watching is fascinating and I don't think I will get to 90.

Now that she's getting you quickly acclimatised to nursing homes, she knows it'll be easier to drop you off at one, sit you with a cuppa tea & a brownie to which she'll then pat you on the head & say "Behave for the nice people, they're here to help you".

2 more minutes down the road from ashwood are in fact a couple of retirement homes.
Are you sure she's not introducing you to your new neighbours?

Garden centres are great for kids. We have a large one near by. They don't mind the noise or mess, it's cheap, the foods great and afterward you can check out the pets. Rabbits hamsters, fish etc.

Have they converted the Stewpony then. :p:p

Ashwood is more of a Nursery than Garden Center. - You can at least walk along the canal towpath.

From memory he's not far off!

DXP, I do love a bit of people watching. Used to sit in the city centre on a bench (like a homeless person) and just watch for hours on end!
I have a wetherspoons in my city centre that has glass frontage looking out to the centre. I can sit there for hours people watching while enjoying good cheap beer.

People watching is a much underrated pastime.

I like the really fat women who have to slump their entire upper half over the trolley as they can't hold their own body up

Hey there ain't anything wrong with a trip to the garden centre and to sit in the cafe amongst all the old dears.

I actually look forward to being old and that laid back every day.
