**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

Thanks. Which global models would you suggest I look at 5" to 5.5"

I've been using a redmi 3s prime for a year and it's been great till I broke it although I would like more volume.

Ah seen that one, let us know you get on with it please !

I've had my new phone and watch since friday now.

for the money this watch is absolutely amazing.

the screen is hard to read in really low light but then it has a backlight feature that you can change the settings in a few easy steps.
another con Is that if you get more than one text you cant read it on the screen. cant answer calls either but can mute or hangup.

Pros:
in daylight the screen is fantastic
the GPS works brilliantly, works perfectly with strava tracked my 14 mile ride and my dog walks
battery life is brilliant. charged it up on Friday and I'm now on 66% after having gps+hr on for a good 4 hours, plus constant HR for an hour and a half in the gym.

I like it that much I might buy one for the wife to replace her fitbit as she wants a water resistant watch.

took 5 days to arrive after ordering including a weekend, and cost me $104, baragain

Looks good that. abit apple watchy though.

I'm going to try and find a metal strap to go with this aswell. for smarter occasions should look like a completely normal watch rather than a sports watch
Definitely, if you are going for smart look one you have is the one to go for. I just want something that is not gonna scratch easily. Will have to decide ☺

I read the other day that they make about 1.8% profit on any phone they sell, so a small margin, they make a lot more on other parts of the business, especially the internet side.

I am a bit of a fan boy of Xiaomi and have been for a few years and none of the phones I have owned have ever been sluggish in anything they do, even my 2 year old redmi note 3 pro is still flying, it is the longest time I have ever owned a phone lol, it is still that good.

Is there a noob friendly 'setup' guide for an unboxing/setup type deal for a new Redmi Note 4 Global Edition?
The one I've orderd is actually for my silver surfing mum, I'm not there to assist in setup, she's coming from a Samsung Note2, so familair with putting in the sim and adding in her account details.

But I read there is also an MIUI account needed, and how to tell if the phone has a legit ROM on it and hasn't been sent with a bloatware/spyware ROM?
Ordered from a legit AliExpress seller, but you never know... Maybe I'm overthinking it!

You don't need the account.
Legit global ROM it will say on the system/about phone screen. Just check the version number.
Most sellers let you order with a global ROM at time of purchase.

I expect they don't make a lot of money on the hardware. I think an S8 costs something like $250 to make?

Really? Samsung claims they cost $400-500 which is why retails prices increased maybe that $250 is profit.

Hardware is not really that expensive it's the royalties that cost.

Regarding storage/ram this again costs very little and companies put low amounts in to force upgrades it's part of the business model.
