EVGA 1080 ICX SC2 or FTW2

I'm also looking into these two cards at the moment. So far I've found this on their differences:

I also found this:

Also regarding phases:

This page says 5+1 for the SC2 and 14+3 for the FTW2.

10+2 for the FTW2, the 14+3 is the classified gaming card. Not that it will likely ever need it.

The fact that the GTX 1080 ti Kingpin has 10+3 shows 14+3 is just overkill. :D

Yeah, I didn't know it either initially. Apparently EVGA isn't using the faster memory. They're basically telling you 'Go ahead and see if you can overclock your memory'.

Not really as crude as that, they have released newer bios that you can download and flash that change the memory speed to 11,000mhz for both SC2 and FTW2 so if you want the faster memory speeds then flash the bios.

Reports on the EVGA forums say they are seeing a nice bump in benchmarks so they suspect other changes have happened as well.

Oh I didn't mean it in a negative way. I just wante to pass along what I found out while researching these cards. :)

Only thing putting me off is it feels like pascal has been around for ages...but then Volta seems so far away.

You are not the only one feeling this mate. It is the only thing that stopped me from picking up a 1080Ti Aorus Xtreme a few days ago.

Having had a 1070 and 1080 feels like buying a 1080Ti now it will be old tech in around 6 months time when everyone will be playing with their nice new shiny Volta. I will grab a 2070 Aorus xtreme on release and then consider grabbing the Volta Titan after when it comes out.

I'm also stuck on the fence.

The x070 will probably match the 1080Ti's performance and cost significantly less, but it's the best part of a year away, it will still cost more than £400 and I'll find myself in the same position of considering whether to replace my x070 with an x080Ti. I'm leaning towards just jumping on the Ti product cycle as soon as a decent deal comes up and skipping the x070/80.

...but it is mature. Look at AMD, it is new and shiny yet not delivering for so many.

Pascal was pretty much mature on release, I suspect with the resources Nvidia have that Volta will be also. Surely you are not expecting Volta to perform worse than Pascal? :p
