Help! Climbing snowdon tomorrow am

Only time to do Snowdon is a nice early start before anyone else is at the top. Cant beat having the summit to yourself.

Sorry for the late post folks. Im back and alive!

Went late on bank holiday Sunday and didn't begin climbing till 2.30pm. Took the pyg track up which was hard enough to be challenging but not too hard and had some great views. It took us 3 hours up as some of the group slowed me down. We spent an hour at the top and had some food in the cafe. I had one of those Snowdonia beers, it was very nice!! Then we came back down via the miners path which took us 2.5 hours. Again, beautiful views and you get to walk right past the lakes.

The car park at the bottom of the pyg/miners track was obviously full but we were directed to a field only 2 miles away in which we parked for 5. Then took taxi up to the start for £2 pp. When we finished we took the taxi back to the car park and drove home.

It was a fantastic day and fortunately the weather was perfect all the way through. Having done the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge 3 years ago, which is 3 times the distance, I expected this to be easy. Though I consider myself quite fit Snowdon is not what I would describe as 'easy'. It was a challenge. At no point did I think I wouldn't make it but its certainly no walk in the park.

P.S: The best part is the beer at the top!! I had a bottle of the 1085 Snowdon Craft Lager which was FANTASTIC!!!! Anyone know where you can buy this stuff from?!

if you got the Yorkshire 3 peaks stamp for less than 12 hours, you must be reasonably fit, so could have carried the crate of beer for the others ?
summit proof required though (still controversial if George Mallory was the first to suimmit Everest - don't know what beer they took)

It is brewed by the Great Orme Brewery Ltd, a quick google will find you some stockists. Although I don't drink, I believe that there has been a rather nice increase in the number of 'micro' breweries in North Wales. Apparently you can now get Wrexham Lager again (friends tell me it is very nice) - produced by a micro brewery rather than some large scale chemicalslop brewery.

They sell the Snowdon Lager in the Albion pub in Conwy. Probably doesn't help you, but if anyone is passing, it's well worth a visit. Owned by some of the local breweries, including Great Orme(others are Nant, Conwy & Purple Moose), so they always have a great selection.

If you had the summit to yourself, who took the photo?
These great little gadgets called tripods, and a camera with a 10 second timer. ;)
It's horrible at the top when its busy. I think i had a 4am start for this one i was at the top before even the supply train that day. I needed it quiet for the decent.

Yucca, if you ever fancy doing it again but a different route, my favorite is to park at the Rhyd Ddu train station, walk along to the rangers path and then up to the top, then descend down the Rhyd Ddu path. Its usually much quieter and a much more pleasant walk.

How the hell did you get your bike all the way up there!?? :o

Thanks for the advice, I really enjoyed my day so will certainly be looking to do it again at some point. I will revert back to this thread and your advice for next time.

Mix of pedaling and carrying it on my back.

Did it recently with a lady in a wheelchair for charity. Group of 8 of us and was very hard work pulling/lifting up there! Up and down in just over 4 hours on the railway track route to the main visitor centre in town.

If anyone else is doing it can only echo, good shoes and socks as getting blisters won't be fun (bring spare socks if needed to change at top), waterproofs, fleece food and water. Was a great sunny day but foggy and very cold up top.

With a quick google I found their website (under construction, so useless) and facebook page. You're probably best asking on facebook for stockists. I also saw some of them on sale in National Trust shops in Wales when we went earlier in the summer. Check out Purple moose while you're at it: we were lucky enough to get a free tour of the brewery as my wife used to work with the owners' wife. I bought a couple of cases while we were there as it was very nice - and this is coming from a wine and single malt drinker.

Purple Moose do some cracking beers. I've bought a few cases from them over the years.
