Hey everyone!

I've been looking at my temps, and although they seem okay, they are about 40C during idle without any overclocking. I've been looking at the options and it seems a 4.9 Ghz OC is easily possible with this chip, but my current temps (around 80 ish at 100%) would be too high.

I've decided to go ahead with the delidding and doing it myself.

I've looked around for the tools available, and OC UK actually sell one, but it is out of stock.

Does anyone have one spare for me to buy (or borrow). I can pay with PayPal.

Regards,
Dimitar

I just used a vice, some padding, a big cushion to catch it if it flies off and whacked it with a wooden mallet and a piece of wood as the "chisel". Took 3 tries. Worked a treat and cushion caught it. That was with an older series CPU IIRC.

Thank you for the reply!

That sound dangerous, I'd rather use a dedicated tool. The bloody thing cost me £300, if I break it, I'll bed quite sad :D

You could try the razor bade approach if banging your CPU with a lump of wood and catching it with a cushion is not your style (I think it shows amazing balls :)) - Clicky

I tried a search 'delid 7700K with lump of wood and mallet' but sadly didn't get any hits - varkanoid, you're missing out on YouTube glory :)

Haha that's so true, he could be making the big time with such videos!

Anyway, I could try the razor method, but it's the aligning part afterwards that is also tricky.

There's a listing on eBay so I may just go for that and the re-sell it!

I wish I had video'd it too. The cushion was an afterthought too. It was mentioned in an old CPU thread as other people had used the wood method.
