Any tips? I've sold a few random things quite a few years ago but never really use ebay. I have a few new/unopened bluray boxsets I'd like to get rid of as I reckon I could get £40-odd for them each. (according to recently sold items)

Any tips for what to put in the title etc? And say I think I can get £45 for one, should I just put it on BIN at £45, or do an auction with £44 as the minimum? Obviously posting a pic is a good idea

What about posting them, tracked/2nd class etc? What do I need to do to cover myself? Do I need to pack them in a big box and wrap them up really well ala Amazon or do people just stick them in a jiffy bag?

Thanks for any pointers...

I always try Gumtree before eBay. First off it's free, there are no fees so you can pitch the stuff a bit lower and still end up with the same cash. The other benefit is not having to post the stuff out as usually the expectation is that they will come to you.

When I have used eBay I always waited for a promotional, free listings weekend or whatever. Also have a look on Facebook there are many collectors groups for things where you can target your prime audience. Selling there you know your goods are going to a good home / fanatical geek who will cherish them...

You get 100 free listings a day on ebay and pay final value fee's of 10%. Paypal will also take (3.4% + 20p.)

Be sensible, send the item by recorded delivery and you should be fine. You'll be looking at about £4 for a boxset sent 2nd class inclusive of recorded signed for delivery.

I've personally sold over 700 items in the last year alone with only two going "missing". These are items from around £5 up to £60/70.

I don't use recorded delivery unless the item is worth over £20.

Probably worth a punt I guess.. Same questions relate for postage etc though..? :)
if you end up selling though ebay, packaging will be irrelevant. if some one is going to stiff you, fancy packaging isn't going to stop them :p

if selling through the MM I guess the packaging depends on the items. A jiffy bag in some instances may well be perfectly fine. if you have any doubts some cardboard slid inside the jiffy will give added protection. re signed for etc - yea I anything over 20 quid I'd be getting it signed for or at least some sort of tracking service

If you're going the ebay route do a completed item search to find out what sort of prices they generally sell at, then either do a buy it now at around the average or an auction format at the lower end.

The biggest problem with ebay is that they always weigh in on the buyer's side. It might be worth looking at some of the seller tools that prevent people with recent disputes or low feedback from bidding. As far as packing goes it's a fine line between huge fees with super protective packaging and poor protection. I'd recommend sending it as if you were sending something to yourself. Free delivery also attracts buyers but you need to factor that in to your overall margins.

Thanks, good info. I had a look at the fees. Blimey, ebay has changed since I last used it. Talk about stiffing the seller! Granted you get free listings (20 per month), but they now charge for what they call extras! E.g. for setting a reserve price, for setting a BIN price. Crazy.

Thanks. I did a lot of completed item searches so I know roughly what I should be getting.

We do have a local FB group so maybe I'll investigate that. It's been great for getting rid of furniture etc. but I'm not sure if anyone uses it for this sort of thing. Failing that the MM is obviously a good shout. Really can't believe how crazy the ebay fees have become!

You should get 100 listings per day for free, you can list buy it now for free as well. You only really get stung if using a reserve price but just list the item for what you'd like. Yes the final value fees add up but where else can you get that kind of exposure.

if you know what price to expect off Ebay then just knock ~15% off and offer them on the MM first,
if no takers after a week or so then start thinking about Ebaying them

We have sold a few DVD's and Blu-rays on Ebay, with a fairly successful rate of return. Where we came unstuck was a steelbook which (allegedly) arrived with a slight "ding" in the case. That was enough for the buyer to spin the sob story, only bought that version for the cover (despite pointing out they still had the movie). So lost on that one, told them to bin or donate to charity though I suspect I know quite nicely what happened.

Bear in mind when selling box sets these are unlikely to fit the large letter category and will require the more expensive small packet or even parcel post which will either cut into your return or require a buyer off-putting P&P surcharge.

Be as detailed as possible. Include photos you took yourself and not stock photos. Your discs will be GENUINE so make a point of that i.e. not "Asian Imports" i.e. fakes from the far east. Yours should stand out as one of the few genuine copies available so make a big point of that.

Definitely tracked, at the very least Signed For. You'll need proof of delivery i.e. a signature in the event of a dispute. Make sure the postal insurance covers it in the event of a loss in delivery etc.

try gumtree first, my mate got his cat on it, the guy was too ill to look after a kitten his mum bought him so my mate got her, hyper active little furry lol

A couple more questions here. Firstly, I'm assuming 2nd class RM signed-for is absolutely fine? I don't need to pay a fortune for tracked? Also, what's the benefit for using ebay's postage printing service for RM?

Also, I put up all my items as BIN, but I'm getting a few offers. Assuming that's normal. What's the best way to play it with those? Let them stew for a day or so? I declined one offer but realised I may have been slightly overpriced so amended the listing down a couple of quid and it went straight away. Then I declined on another item and it went for the full BIN price shortly after
