Poor 1080p performance with 1080Ti?

100FPS seems pretty solid to me,but then I am probably not the most competitive player!!:p

Maybe try turning off as many background processes as possible, shut down your web browser if you leave it open during matches, etc.

100fps feels awful to mouse movement. Feels like dragging the sensor over a coarse surface.

Yep any i5 will bottleneck a 1080ti at 1080p, especially in bf1. there has been a lot of threads lately about this on here and the cpu section, 4c/4t cpus are not up to scratch with anything 980ti/1070 or higher

swap out for an i7 your minimum framerates will double and avg will go up a lot

that's normal, it's cpu bottleneck. You are getting 4k60 because the 1080ti can handle the higher resolution and sheer pixel output, but the cpu only has to handle enough instructions to reach 60 frames.

It is 'only' 100 FPS at 1080p because your CPU is unable to keep up. My system is exactly the same.

Herein lies a strange fact of pc gaming: a i5 cpu is better value for your money than an i7 for 4k60 gaming, since you're only reaching a target of 60fps, which is well within reach of that particular combination of hardware. An i7 has a far bigger impact at lower resolutions.

Again this is nothing like I'm getting with a faster CPU and GPU.

Could you guys check your in game settings for me please? and perhaps the Nvidia control panel too if you don't mind

While your CPU is definitely better, the 2600k having the HT gives it that edge in mutithreaded uses, which BF1 is a core hog.

I just have Ultra settings with 100% scale, havne't touched NVCP.

If your CPU bound check what your GPU usage is at in game using MSI Afterburner's "Rivertuner statistics"
Bet your not maxing your GPU which means you have room left to play with stuff perhaps more AA or increase resolution scaling? etc? Still should get roughly same FPS just gets GPU to work abit more providing bit more IQ

Am i missing something here? Why would you have a 1080TI for 1080p gaming?
Yeah. I had my 1080ti running 1080p for a week or so and the card would be asleep most of the time.

Even at 144hz the my overclocked Ryzen wasn't fast enough. Different story now with my Dell S2417DG at 1440p 165hz and even then I see some cpu bound games struggling.

My 1080TI doesnt even max out on some games at 4K let alone 1080p

If anything OP, you should have paid the extra for a 1440 144/165hz monitor. If you could.

My card doesn't have much issue running 3440x1440@120hz with high to ultra settings.

Unless your running a ridiculous overclock 1080p is going to be hard with the 1080Ti because of the cpu bottleneck.

Lots of replies! My quote thing isn't working so I'll just reply in this one message:

1. I've had my 1080Ti for a few months now, I bought it originally for 4k gaming which I still do (and my CPU is fine on that). I then wanted to try some competitive gaming so bought a 1080p/144hz monitor which was on offer at £170.

2. My CPU is overclocked at 4.4ghz currently but it's still 100% usage in BF1. However I have tried DOOM and Witcher 3 with everything to max (apart from hairworks) and I'm getting 200+ fps @ 1080p with low CPU usage. So it is definitely BF1 that's the issue with my CPU.

3. I have been thinking about swapping my CPU/motherboard/memory for something else but if it's just BF1 that's the issue and every other game plays fine then I won't bother just for one game

4. 1440p/165hz is too much for me at the moment, I just wanted a decent quality 1080p/144hz monitor to game on, and the one I got was on sale and decent specs for the price (24 inch, 1080p, 144hz, 1ms, lightboost)

I guess I'll leave it for now and just tweak a few more settings when required.

If I did opt for an upgrade, what would be a good CPU up to £250 to get?

Thanks for the help guys, lots of information here!

Maybe a used 4790k if you can find a good deal. Otherwise I'd OC your chip further, assuming you have sufficient cooling
