....and what did you do about it? I had a recent experience involving me telling the assistant manager I wasn't happy with the treatment me and my guest were receiving and he agreed to compensate us with a luxury suite subject to confirmation from his boss. On leaving I spoke to him again just to confirm what was agreed, gave him my email so he could send the arrangement to me in writing and I have heard nothing since despite the fact he had said it had all been confirmed. It's been about a week now.

The complaint consisted of the hotel/booking agent not telling there was a wedding reception being held the night we were staying. There was too much screaming and shouting when the reception finished. Some idiot was banging on the piano throughout the night. We couldn't book for a meal despite walking past the restaurant at 7:30 only to find there were only two tables being attended to, so we were basically lied to and when we could eat, we were forced to share the same room full of chavs who had attended the wedding reception and brought their own food in from the local chippy. You wouldn't believe the experience started with a cream tea surrounded by peacocks and then descended to a hoe-down with morons dressed in Sports Direct track suite bottoms and tops?

You told him you were happy with the treatment so I guess nothing?

Typo?

Normally I would get the compensation on the spot, not after. By the time you got home it's a bit late. Normally I would ask for a refund and that'd be the end of the matter.

Travel Lodge has really gone downhill in recent years :(.

Since your stay has been completed I would be surprised to see anything come of it. Can only suggest following up with a phone call or email and finally leaving a review if nothing comes of the call or email.
A negative review would probably get some sort of reaction. If the hotel is that high class I doubt they'd appreciate the relation with chavs and fish and chip shops in their reviews.

Is the hotel part of a chain? Most are even if it's not obvious at first. Can you escalate it to their head office?

Sounds like your typical high class wedding to me. Were there many Porsches in the carpark?
Now you've left the place I doubt much will happen, you've more than likely just been fobbed off.

As above - should've got something sorted at the time.

When a hairdrier nearly electrocuted my wife and a couple of other issues happened at a disney hotel they refunded the entire two night stay, and also gave us $250 of disney dollars (which we did of course had to spend disney).

chase them up ASAP (I'd not have left it for a week tbh..), if you don't get anywhere then escalate to head office... then later consider social media/review sites

Disney are fantastic with this. When we were in Orlando in May we waiting to get on a ride on a particularly hot day in the Magic Kingdom, and a young girl in front of us had some form of heat exhaustion and collapsed, smashing her head on one of the barriers. Completely not Disney's fault but they rushed over and helped right away.

About an hour or so later we saw the young girl with her family eating in a restaurant and we asked if she was ok. The mother reached into her bag and showed us that Disney had given them a gift card with $500 on it. Result!

I'm amazed they agreed to compensate you for this - it's a hotel, there are always events taking place - what do you think the purpose built function rooms are for? I'd imagine most 4 and 5 star properties do not have a single Friday or Saturday night without the function rooms being booked.

It's almost like complaining that they didn't tell you there were other people staying in guest rooms!

The conduct of the attendees obviously is another matter and sounds awful but... I can't imagine any hotel would tell you there was a function going on in the function rooms

Tbh I can't either since it has the potential to force any intending resident to look elsewhere ;)

I assume a few minutes later your young child also had an unfortunate "accident"? :p

Quite. In fact I literally just booked a hotel which I'm staying at for a wedding reception being held there. Should I ask for a refund when I get there because I didn't tell them I was going to the wedding reception and they didn't let me know one was happening!
