Anybody had any less than satisfactory service from a high class hotel

I must admit reading the reviews they don't seem to take any criticism well and actually come off looking worse with their replies!

small business owners tend to take it personally when they get a bad review compared to say professional hotel managers or social media people employed by larger companies who tend to write generic responses apologising for your experience with a request to contact them directly with more details of your stay etc..

actually this one is good:

I don't see why a hotel would need to tell you that they have a wedding reception on at the time you book a room?

Weedings happen at hotels everywhere, all the time.

It would be useful though, which is the point. I can't prove it but I had surmised the reason why we couldn't book in for a meal was because most of the staff were busy dealing with the wedding. All I do know is when I walked past that resteraunt a number of times between 7:30-8:00 there were only two tables being waited on, and when I questioned the assistant manager about it, no explanation was given. They are supposed to serve food in the resteraunt up untill 9:30 and we tried to book at 3:00. On hearing of our difficulty one member of staff told us to go to the resteraunt on the hill. The food was supposedly better with larger portions he said? Apparrently the manager wasn't too pleased about this.

Other people in your hotel, and commoners at that? How awful for you OP!

Uh? Of course there are other people of varying different degrees of wealth in the hotel. The criticism is directed at how some of them behaved, not about how much money they have. I also questioned the suitability of turning up at a wedding wearing baggy, grey, cotton track suite bottoms that don't fit though. Might upset the peacocks ;)

I think you are over thinking and complicating it. Yes, by all means be angry about the other guests and why they were not told to keep the noise down or to behave. The rest of the issues seem trivial and are being blown out of all proportion.

If they offered you a free night after your bad experience would you even want to go back?

How can you hold the hotel responsible for what guests choose to wear?

I'm not holding them responsible at all. Perhaps that is how it reads. I'm just expressing an opinion that it seemed a bit inappropriate for the newly weds including some of the guests at the reception to have people turning up wearing baggy track suit bottoms and string vests etc. Not an issue as such, but I wouldn't like it.

The manager offered me a complimentary stay in one of the suites anytime between Christmas and January. I wanted to give him the chance to put things right. The place is quite nice at Christmas.
