Where or what is the scam?

Or I am I too cynical in my old age to accept that there are genuine folk out thee?

I put a camera plus a bunch of extras on Gumtree this morning for the sum of £270. Got a response from a guy in Hull telling me he was very interested. I replied that I prefer not to do long distance deals preferring the face to face approach.
He said he understood and that he could come up to Edinburgh as it would be a nice day out but a approx 9 hour round trip does not sound like a nice day out.
Almost immediately i got another email saying he would pay up front + postage and trust me to send it.
This all sounds to good to be true.
What say you?

SCAM, don't gumtree say to only accept up front hand to hand payments.

That is the problem these days. Because there are a lot of people out there just looking to scam ad cheat someone, the honest buyer/seller gets screwed.
I remember my dad selling a caravan via Ebay, I told him not to do it, that it was a scam waiting to happen. It was the only Ebay transaction he ever did and it went 100% fine - people turned up, gave him the cash and took the caravan.
My now brother-in-law sold a classic Mini to a guy in the US. He contacted my BIL who immediately thought scam. However a bank transfer took place and then two weeks later a shipping firm came and collected the mini to ship it to its destination.

For safety OP - face-to-face and cash is the only 100% safe way.

Don't settle for the first sniff of an offer if it doesn't meet your terms and you don't feel comfortable. I'd rather sell locally at a lower price than mess about with scammers and time wasters from miles away.
