I have decided to go for a Ryzen build, how do you guys think this build looks? i already have the PSU (seasonic prime 750w titanium) and hard drives so i didn't add them to the cart

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £1,902.00
(includes shipping: £14.10)

Why not go with the R7 1700/X and just overclock it ?

I would go with a different case/cooler, but that is just Me. Nothing wrong with the ones you have selected.

Also not sure if that cooler needs an AM4 bracket for that board, but better safe than sorry.

Thanks, i'd have assumed that the kraken should already include the correct brackets but who knows. I might go for the h100i instead as a youtube review mentioned its hard to fit a 280mm rad on the top of that case. as for the 1800x it just looks shinier(better silicon etc), but your right i should just go for the 1700x and overclock it

Get the 1700 no X instead and overclock it and save a few £££ also.

I would go with this case instead.

As for motherboards these two would be my choice.

My Kraken X62 did not come with the AM4 bracket but i believe the latest batch does now.

I recommended those boards based on reviews and also the fact 8 pack uses them in his Ryzen bundles.

I like the Msi pro carbon its a nice board for the price but the titanium is overpriced and not worth it over the asus and Asrock boards.

Just my opinion.

Wouldn't i be better of going with a cheaper board like the one i specced and getting a 1700x/1800x which works out the same price as a 1700 and crosshair zero with features i'll hardly use (unless i'm missing something). that board i specced runs at 3200mhz memory too.

Also do you guys think its worth going ryzen over the 7700k? i wanted to get ryzen because it seems more future proofed with the added cores and i plan to keep this setup for atleast 4 years but all ill be doing with my build is playing games(60% of the time), using microsoft office/excel(4 windows open on screen at once) and im getting into programming (started to learn c# and do want to try my hand at java and game development)

Ryzen 7 1700 is 279 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39x-am.html
Ryzen 7 1800X is 399 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/amd-...hz-socket-am4-processor-retail-cp-39v-am.html

No where near the same price. 1700 also comes with its own cooler, while for the 1800X, you''ll need an additional purchase.

Yes, it's worth Ryzen 7 over 7700K because you''ll get 16-threads instead of 8-only and for gaming Ryzen 7 offers smoother gameplay, even despite slightly lower absolute framerates.

Your motherboard of choice is fine.

If it was me I would go with the 1700 and overclock it. A cooler such as the X62 won't break a sweat. For your usage you could even drop down to a 6 core R5 1600/X unless you want/need 8 cores for game dev ?

If you are not planning to SLI then I would look at something like the Asus B350-F Strix for £117.

I pretty much just finished my own Ryzen build recently. I'd originally looked at the asus b350 but ended up with the gigabyte board instead.

Will give the entire thing.

CPU - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i GTX
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming 3
Memory - Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
Storage - Seagate Barracuda 3TB Hard Drive
Video Card - Aorus 1080ti
Case - Corsair Carbide 400C
Power Supply - Corsair RMx 650W
Wireless Network Adapter - TP-Link Archer T8E

Went for the 1700 just for price and take a risk on how far i can overclock it, but from what i've seen even the 1700s that aren't great at overclocking can still get in touching distance of the 1700x. And yeah from speaking to other people the wraith cooler (I think it's the wraith cooler you get with the 1700) should apparently hold up fine with some overclocking, i went for the watercooler purely out of a "I want a watercooler" :D

I did have to get an AM4 bracket for the corsair cooler, but the NZXT might come with it as standard, i'm not sure.

Thanks for linking your spec, i specced something with help from feedback in this thread. i'm going to try and keep this build cost/performance and i have also decided to go Mini itx for this build because i like the look of the new phanteks shift. My total budget
is around £2300 (already have a monitor and 1tb ssd that ill be using in this build). so far i have specced this, i also get free shipping

My basket at Overclockers UK:

looks like a good mixture of bling and cost/performance. I could stretch my budget further and get a 1700x and overclock that to 4ghz.

Any thoughts?

I actually ended up going for Trident Z RGB 32gb 3466mhz memory and a atx build at the end. i have the same graphics card as you as well. How is your gpu usage in games?

It maxes out at 1440p with ultra settings on AAA titles while the CPU sits between 30-60%.

Performance is great though and easily clears 60fps on everything with the settings turned up.
