What can i do ?

A site using 3rd party services is trying to charge me £45+ VAT more for delivering a item because they state the item i sent is a few cm more then the parcelforce limit and parcel force has contacted them, I was sure it was within the limit, they have not given me any choice on what i can do (return, use a different service, repackage) the item was a rug so i had a few options.

I have tried to call but they no longer take calls, I requested a callback which was a missed call days later 3 days after item was delivered.

What they are asking in a standard email, if i dispute this is send proof, images with size as proof, I dont know anyone who would take a photo of a packaged item never mind with a measurement showing size

So let's get this straight - you sent something huge, but they say it's too huge and want you to pay more moneys?

Nothing you can do. Pay up. If you don't pay then it will just languish in their warehouse and they'll eventually bin it.

I once chanced my arm sending a bike by Hermes. It was a couple of cm too big but I got away with it. The person at the newsagent was like "wtf this is huge" but I said it was fine. It got through ok, but I know I was taking a risk.

They have not provided me anything, Its down to me to provide the proof.

also just double checked its not £43. its even more £45+ Vat

Should I bother even talking to them ?

Yes,

The Item has already been delivered.

I checked the size before packaging. if not i could have just folded it and still be withing limit.

They've delivered it? Huh, that's surprising. You could just hold out and say no, though you may get blacklisted.

Barred from parcelforce. What a badass.

Don't know about that, I'd argue that they need to provide evidence that the item you sent exceeds their size guidelines, otherwise they could just do this with everyone. What's the difference between that and me offering to build you a shed for £100, then claiming it cost more so I need £200, and when challenged to prove that it cost that much insisting that you prove to me that it didn't?

I would have risked it a few years ago but they have no competition at the moment.

just checking the email they sent

Hello,

Parcelforce have been in touch and informed us that the parcel you sent, reference {ORDER_ID}, has incurred a surcharge of £45.00 + VAT.

This is because your item's length = 155cm

Parcelforce restrictions on this service are:

- No side longer than 150cm

- Maximum weight of 30kg

- Length + girth can not exceed 300cm

£45+ VAT for 5cm LOL I only paid £12 for the other 140cm (or 150cm like they say)

So they were subcontracting parcel force? Surely they should have checked before they handed it over to PF. Check the small print, the contract may not even give them the right to pass that charge back to you.

Surely there is a requirement for Parcelfarce to check the item meets the fee paid for the selected servive before agreeing to ship said item?

If they've already delivered the item and they can't prove it was too big / heavy etc, I don't think they have a leg to stand on.

If they're not returning your calls and not corresponding with you via phone, then I think you've done everything you can.

Either ignore it at your own risk or I'd check with Parcelforce or whatever - normally these kind of things should be dealt with upfront - you should have some kind of contractual agreement to redress them in violation of whatever terms otherwise they don't have a leg to stand on.

I've managed to get someone via live chat on the website, after 15 mins ive been asked to contact them via email, I asked for contact number but they did not reply for 5mins then disconnected me. I contacted them again and now they are telling me they have requested further information from parcel force, the next reply was do you have any proof.

ive also been told the reason the item was not returned was
because the consignee collected this from the depot.

When asked why was it not refused on collection or why was I not given any choice later when the item was found to be 5cm too big, it was ignored.
the reply was
these are the charges from the courier I'm afraid.

The site does have the in f

Surcharges

It is very important that you accurately declare the weight and dimensions of each parcel in your consignment. Every parcel is scanned and weighed by the appropriate courier. If you under-declare the weight or size then you will be surcharged. The surcharge amount varies depending on the courier and service selected:

On some services there will be a surcharge if a redelivery is necessary.

Some areas will be subject to a Remote Area Location surcharge. This will be calculated in the quoting system at the time of booking.

If the consignment has to be returned then the return charge is chargeable. This will be the best available price available on our website.

We may supply documentation to accompany your shipment, such as labels. You will be advised of this at the time of ordering and this must go with the shipment. If it does not, your shipment could be delayed and the courier may well charge you a higher premium direct.

Surcharges must be paid within 7 days of receipt of our invoice.

In the event that you have under declared your dimensions or weights and additional charges come through from the carrier of choice then by accepting our terms agree for --- to collect these fees from your payment card that was used to make the original payment.

PARCELFORCE

anther few reason for me to be annoyed, they did not five me a choice and are not willing to talk to me in a fair manner.

What options do I have ?

Pay it and move on, if you don't you'll no doubt get hounded in a few month from a collection agency.

Cancel the card immediately!

It's your word against theirs, if they have no evidence they won't win a county court case.
