LGA 2066 or LGA 1151

Everybody has to learn something new from time to time and changing platforms is no different. If you don't try something out then you will never know. Plenty of people across your multiple threads were advising you to go AMD yet you wouldn't even consider it because you didn't want to try something new. Enjoy your overpriced Intel system and hope that you don't have the same problem as the 7700k and Z270 board that you have already returned.

I don't think there is any need to be like that because I didn't do what I was told.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across nasty but you asked for advice and most people across your various threads advised you to go with AMD and you just ruled it out because you weren't familiar with it. All it takes is a bit of reading through some up to date reviews and you would have seen that you could have gotten so much more for less money. Why ask for advice if you just go and buy what you already had?

I appreciate what you say, I just decided to stick with familiarity I guess. I am happy with my choice and did appreciate all the advice. 8 Pack did a bit of a review on this kit and I guess that swung it. I did seriously consider the AMD route but read one review where the chap was having a nightmare and with my luck I thought better of it this time.

PS, I'll probably regret saying this but it is running very nicely too. Bit of a bag to start off though, did a clean win 10 install, loaded the drivers all fine and dandy. Then loaded the utilities and after reboot the darn thing couldn't find any drives. Something was corrupted and I had to start over :( No Asus utilities and its ok ;)

It's a well tested and trusted platform, the 7700k is still a top-notch cpu, it's top of most review charts. I like what amd are doing and if they keep going i'm sure they will gain more trust and confidence in their products for end users, the amd Ryzen memory compatibility issues were off putting from the get go, but it appears they are working on improvements, they still have to play catch up to Intel and Nvidia, but Intel and Nvidia hedt products are expensive.

I remember the early days of AMD, it wasn't pretty but they have come a long way since then. Intel have always been more expensive even back in the days of £1 a Meg RAM and 8Gb hard drives. If prices were still the same today you'd need a mortgage for 16Gb of RAM and a 250Gb SSD . The industry has moved forwards at an amazing pace and continues to do so.

It's a top notch gaming CPU, but the OP isn't gaming.

It'll do the job fine but it was a poor choice for the OPs usage.

The 7700k is a good choice for flight simming! Most love Ghz and Ryzen is generally 2nd choice here, hence I will go for a 8700k when it's out.

XP11 and P3Dv4 for commercial.

For military, check out DCS World.

Exactly... The intel option is fine. The amd option is fine. You made your choice and the rig will do your tasks fine. I don't understand these people at all..

Cheers Darren, I'm very pleased with the performance so far. Partnered with the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS IX HERO Intel Z270 Motherboard and Team Group Dark Pro "8 Pack Edition" 2x8GB DDR4 PC4 25600C14 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit it’s nice and quick

Never been an AMD fan, don't really know why.

I know why I not a big fan of AMD as in the past I got really burned by burned out processers as when I use to offer 3 year warranty if they bought a panamax surge protector and a battery back up and I had warranty work on a 40 with about even between Intel and AMD with cpu issues all due to heavy smoking damaging the cpu fan with my Intel all had to do was replace a cpu fan as the cpu slowed down to a crawl due to thermal protection on the AMD did not have thermal protection so all the CPS and almost all motherboards had to be replaced as AMD when the fan stopped the cpu did not slow at all and ran full tilt till the temp got so hot it fried the CPU and the board with it

I do know that not an issue now but still feel burned as AMD refused to do anything about
