Excessive light levels in office

Yep, I twisted my tube as well - shared desk as well, and no one has mentioned it.

I've heard people in office whinge about it being too hot/cold, light/dark, noisy/quiet.... you can't please everyone, but if things are being made unnecessarily uncomfortable then DSE the crap out of them.

Women in the summer especially! They come to work in a strappy top or with no tights on and a slightly shorter dress while the guys all wear trousers and polo shirt or shirt, sometimes even shirt and tie and then the women complain about how cold it is because the aircon is on. Or in the Winter wear a giant coat and scarf outside but when they come in their work attire is the same all year round then complain about how it's freezing in the office when all the guys are getting on with work.

Why speak to HR just go direct to your Occupational Health (or request a visit from them) it would be recognised and delt with quicker by the company if your Occupational Health Officer is on your side.

I can't believe someone has actually started a thread on something like this. If its such a big problem and HR aren't interested why not just do as suggested stay back late or get in early and twist the starter. Problem solved, people are hardly going to thank you for complaining about it all day every day.

I do worry about the lack of common sense in this world at times, I really do.

It's not impossible - just ask them to allow removal of the starter from the fluorescent light - it just twists out.

get in early and twist the starter. Problem solved,

Where do you work, in 2002? Florescent lights have electronic ballasts now.

Also, if you are the only one complaining then the best solution could be glasses. Maybe your optician could advise?

I'm grateful for the recessed cat 2 modular filled with flickering T12s of different colour temperatures, it's a great way to instantly tell if the company is tight.

I had a light above my desk that was uncomfortable. I just requested it wasn't replaced when it blew. No idea why some companies are so adversarial with staff

Don't go the doctor route, it will take ages to get an appointment due to the all of the legitimately unwell people wanting to see the doctor for legitimate reasons having to compete with you.

i thought ambient light was a basic of HR/ergonomics/work place health stuff, if you have a genuine issue and they are resisting ithink it's timet o take it further, via a union maybe?
