"Nvidia Graphic Cards To see an Uplift in Prices come September"

The people buying them at £400+ aren't gamers :p You know this. I know this.

Sorry but this is bull, if this is the price that the card is listed when someone that games has some money to spare then they have no choice if they need an upgrade.

I have been saving 5 years for a new complete build but money is so tight im still £4-500 off but I am in desparate need of a new GPU as I think my one is starting to show its age, 670GTX Twin Forzr Power Edition been running pretty much 24/7 for the past 4 and a half years to the point that when playing wow and it ramps up a bit I can hear a mixture of what sounds like buzzing and rattling which isnt present if I just put the cpu under load.

Get a new cpu, mobo, ram, case etc but get a second hand GPU? Tremendous value in second hand GPUs. Get your gaming itch scratched. New GPUs are like cars, when you buy it you lose loads of value from it straight away.

I have made countless post on this forum in past months, telling you guys to buy because prices were going only one way and some were crazy deals to really give you a chance to grab an epic bargain, many took advantage but many still sat there and did nothing.
As said nothing to do with hindsight, warnings were posted by myself and many other members.

Pricing won't get better in the short term, maybe not even in long term now.

Its not just minders, we just sold 1000pc of 1080Ti to a video rendering server farm, demand is simply very high and the factories are maxed out.

Well then you better start to expect the PC gamer base to shrink big time, many PC gamers have already jumped ship to console due to pricing and if prices keep going up at the rate they currently are then the PC gamer base is only going to get smaller each year and as a result, developers spend even less time optimising the PC version (due to PC market being incredibly tiny compared to the console, especially the PS 4) making the PC version run even worse on release day and then this will just cause more PC gamers to move onto the cheaper and arguably better "gaming" system nowadays..... At least it sounds like you have other markets to keep the ship afloat (for now anyway....), probably getting far more money from those types of markets than the PC gaming market and obviously, those types of "professional" markets are more than happy to pay such prices as well as buying in bulk, unlike most PC gamers.

Personally I won't be supporting the extortionate prices and will just buy something from the second hand market instead, that way, my money doesn't go to any company in particular except us end consumers that are getting shafted.

The PC gaming market has been in rude health and I'm not sure component price increases will impact to that extent, although clearly that's just my opinion. Obviously in the UK we have felt the prices far harder due to the huge reduction in the value of the Pound versus the Dollar/Euro. That said the price increases go far beyond PC Components so it's easier to be more confident with guesses about a reduction in demand for any luxury goods in the UK.

I sense publishers love the higher revenue on PC due to the open nature and that's a big positive for continuing to push the platform.

Whether it's the right time or not overall I have decided to upgrade my trusty MSI Nvidia 980 Ti to a Nvidia 1080. I know it's not a huge upgrade but it seems to be the sweet spot for me personally, where I want a bit more GPU power to drive my 1440p display and the Nvidia 1080 runs cooler, faster and (likely) a very little bit quieter. Once I've sold the old card, the upgrade should have only cost me a few hundred. I'll still be looking at interest with what 2018 brings but this at least means I can bide my time a little bit more with my next GPU upgrade.

There will always be someone, usually younger gamers, who must have the latest and greatest expensive GPU for their forum sig and to be added to rolls of honour. They usually sell their older gpu for a steal and these are the punters whom buying second hand from, is good. They usually take care of their stuff but epeen means they are wiling to take a hit on older gen gpu to buy a new gpu. Rich pickings for the canny buyer.

Sounds like mid-range and high-end cards will be out of reach for many of us going forwards. I can see Volta's xx70 card being £500 now :/ Vega sure hasn't set a new bar for perf/$.

So the comparison will not be "high-end PC vs console" for most people. The comparison will be "low-end and low-mid vs console". If the total cost of ownership and performance favours console vs low-end PC, then console will be where we all end up. Factor in the ease of use for consoles, and that most people have an old PC they can keep using for Office and browsing (so the "PC can do more" argument falls down - most of us have an older PC for work and productivity).

The irony will be when PC enthusiasts have to buy more and more expensive hardware to keep their edge over the consoles, as developers spend less and less effort targeting high end PC hardware. May well be that all you get for that wheelbarrow full of cash is higher res and higher refresh. Might have to live with console-level details and effects, if the PC market is too small to justify any extra work.

I saw this roll of honour thing the other day. What the hell is that about? It's got to be the lamest most pathetic computer enthusiast practise I've ever seen.

**********. A GTX 670 cost me £365 in May 2012. A Gtx 1070 has just cost me £395. It's the price you have to pay. What part of that is so Complicated and Knicker Twisting for you?

Seriously.

You couldn't have picked a better example of the issue.
670/680 and 1070/1080 are GK104 and GP104 respectively. Mainstream GPU dies dressed up as high end G*100's, so of course it's equivalent.

460's (GF104), $200-$230?, are bigger chips than 1080's. You can see where their 60% profit margins are coming from.

1070 is over a year old. when the 670 was over a year old it was more in the £250ish range

not to mention last gens 970 was £270 on launch too

So prices aint dropping like you want? Stamp your feet a bit and scream like a little girl. Maybe you might get your way.

The 970 was borked from the get go. I bought one. I know. Cost me £265 and I sold it for £180 2 years later.

The 670 I sold for £150 after 3 years of use.

Can you see where I'm going with this?

Not stamping my feet at all, just wont buy anything till it seems like good value to me. Personally i'd feel ripped off paying current prices for gpu's, especially when pascal is almost eol

Good Value? I'm running a PC I built in May 2012. i5 2500k , Asus Z77 sabertooth, 8gb Corsair DDR3 1600mhz, Corsair HX650w, Noctua C14, Fractal R3 black pearl and Windows 7 that hasn't been updated for 3 years.

I do not have a problem running any game I want to play at 1440 (Dell U2711 - bought at the same time - 5 years ago)

Value ?

PS I am from Yorkshire. Short arms deep pockets and I like a bargain.

At £395 the GTX 1070 G1 Gaming I just bought was a complete and utter bargain and je nais regret rien.

After a G1 Gaming 970 with those fans spinning constantly at idle the silence is bliss. Complete and utter bliss. Running games at 2 am with the sound on the speakers set low? - silence.

I've also owned and used every single 7 series card from Nvidia over the past few years and this 1070 is the best and well worth the investment.

Yes I know DX12 games are just around the corner and PCIE 3 will become fully implemented and multicore hyperthreading will become derigieuer and my old fashioned steampunk pc will be obsolete but hey. I'm enjoying the ride in the meantime.

Could you be a bit more obnoxious please? You're not quite at the right level of awfully obnoxious yet.

Could you perhaps contribute something a little more pertinent to add to the discussion?

Rather than just being offensive? (looking back at your previous posts)
