The phone went tonight so answered it with my name - Hello I am calling from XYZ Hospital - is that Joe Bloggs - yes it is - Can you confirm your birth date - Gave her my birth date - Mistake number one - She never said what it was so how could I confirm it ?? -- I will remember that next time - I was expecting this call and recognised the number calling me but even so I missed an opportunity to flumux the caller.

If all things were equal I should have asked her to give me 2nd forth and last number then I could have filled in the rest - do you think they would stand that.

This data protection crap drives me mad some times - it seems to only work one way.

Hmmm.

I had a Mexican stand off with NatWest over this once.
They phoned me and I asked them to prove it was them too.
They couldn't divulge my personal info to me because I might not be me ergo couldn't prove they were them...
Something like that... Lol :p

I had a company chasing me for a bad debt once, it was an invoice I had disputed that had got massively out of hand. But the company couldn't tell me what they wanted when they phoned up so we had a stand off for about 9 months before they gave up.

We (as solicitors) are having this issue with some banks at the moment where they wont release people's mortgage funds to us unless we confirm our bank details over the phone, but they must call us. But we have a policy where we can't give bank details out over the phone to people who call us.. A policy which was made mandatory by our bank

My daughter has to ring customers up and just tells them to find the bank number off Google, ring her department and ask for her - works every time.

Reverse charges :p

My experiences were a good few years ago. I'm sure nowadays more people are aware of fraudsters and data protection so they are very prepared for it.
