I know we have a few outdoor freaks on here, so here goes.

We've just replaced our harnesses at work with new ones. The old ones have never been used, never stopped a fall and have been inspected monthly for the last 10 years (they're 10 years old). They're Spanset 2-x and are basically new, we only had to replace them due to our policy stating that they need to be replaced every 10 years. There are 4 of them, one fall arrester (also never used) as well as two lanyards. Free for collection or if you want to pay postage I can send them.

Obviously if you take them you assume full responsibility, if you fall and injure yourself it's on you, not me.

If anyone wants them let me know.

You should probably do a bit of research on how harnesses work. It's when they stop a fall that they need to be replaced ;)
And if they fail to stop a fall you can get a full refund from the manufacturer when you present them in person. Or is that Parachutes?

If a parachute fails, you won't be presenting anything in person ;)

@Diddums, I'd be extremely careful about giving away fall protection equipment. Even with your disclaimer, if something happened you'd be in the spotlight as someone whose been arranging the maintenance of the equipment. Are you also going to provide the certificates with the purchase?

You may also find that they're passed their shelf life if they're >10 years old, so whilst they may not show signs of use the buyer would be unable to know how you stored them, if they've been exposed to any harmful heat, UV etc. which could have reduced their performance or generally how "good" they are without another thorough examination, which is going to cost.

Good point. Delete this thread pls, I'll just bin them.

A lot of climbing gear has a 10 year life span as apparently the nylon used degrades over time. I'd retire any gear of that sort of age!
