Courier charging a extra £45+ VAT for delivering a item

But then you get boned if anything happens and you're not insured for the actual value surely?

As mentioned only buy from abroad if it's either not valuable enough to warrant charges or you desperately need something that you can't get here.

Having said that i don't mind a bit of risk so might look into that.

Ultimately even when the law is on their side - or at least the terms in their contract would potentially give them a case pending whatever was decided in court - it just isn't worth their time over the money involved to take it to court with the cost and time it would incur even if they got a win. But you never know.
The gist I got from them about my situation was that they couldn't do anything about it at all, because they'd made the mistake handing the stuff over.

I would strongly suggest that's the case for the OP as well. They use your packages as leverage, so once they've given it up they are limited in what they can do.

The leverage plus the lies they tell are quite evident. I've had them claim all sorts of BS in the hope that I back down because they said scary things.

One of them claimed the border agency would come for me because they are the ones that charge the "handling fee."

It gets really tedious listing to them and trying to stay reasonable when they keep throwing BS claims out like that.

Just a small update.

I disputed this on the 4th, I was told they have sent parcel force a email for further information.

Today I have had a few emails instead of proof ive been sent a few emails in basic reminding me I need to pay and i need to send proof to state other wise.

its like they have ignored what I asked and heard what they wanted, to me it seams they have nothing or they would have waited and sent the proof.

Now I have a few thoughts about this, 1. ignore them, 2. ignore the emails and wait for proof, 3. reply and tell them its down to them to provide proof, 4. reply and tell they to provide proof and if they have nothing charge them for my time. 5. just tell them im disputing it and I sent the correct size.

3 and 5. Tell them you're disputing it and want them to provide evidence.

It is not reasonable to expect someone to take pictures of a parcel next to a measuring 'device' before sending. They shouldn't have accepted the parcel if there was any query.

I would be asking for some kind of proof from Parcel Force that the item is above the limit and the extra £43 is legitimate, it's potentially a bit of scam as they could just be pocketing the £43. If they have the proof I would probably just pay up out of moral principles and be more careful when packaging up/measuring next time.

I've just had a email, no proof has been provided instead it has a basic reminder and this reply "If you cannot provide proof that this is incorrect then the charge will still stand."

I'd be tempted to tell them to swivel, they're within their rights to enforce their terms and conditions in relation to extra charges. However (and keep in mind IANAL), I would expect them to be able to provide evidence of additional charges incurred, without that they can't prove the validity of their claim.

Basically this process should have started when they still had possession of the package, that way they can back up their claims and they're within their rights to issue the charge, now they're snookered.

"It was too big so you need to pay extra, but we delivered it anyway even though technically we shouldn't have, and now we can't prove it so we're shifting the onus to you, even though there's probably no legal basis for this".

it must have been the correct size, I dont think they would have delivered it otherwise.

Now I'm not sure if I should bother reply, I'm just getting the same basic replies and telling me i need to provide proof.

1. Just reply with the same reply and ask them for proof.
2. just ignore them.

Just stick with a template reply about requesting proof.

They'll either eventually give up, or you know... actually provide some proof!

The onus should be on them to prove you actually owe them the money, they must surely have got some kind of receipt or invoice for using Parcel Force. If they won't provide it I'd just ignore them and assume it's a scam.

If they have already delivered the item then they are out of luck, they have no way to prove it. They will eventually give up chasing you.

"If you cannot provide proof that this is incorrect then the charge will still stand."

Then it's going to stand forever :p As the accuser, it's up to THEM to prove it. These companies think they can just demand money from people as they like and that what they say is some kind of law. Maybe troll them a bit, send a photo of nothing, since the parcel has already gone. Or one of a really tiny parcel and say that in fact they own you money.

You had a contract with them which was completed when the parcel was delivered. If they want more money you aren't contractually obliged to do so.

Yeah but the contract will probably stipulate that it's the senders responsiblity to provide accurate measurements, if he failed to do so he's breached the contract.

It's a scam.

Have you contacted Parcel force yourself to see what they can say about it?

Don't let them 'pull the rug' from under you feet mate!

They seem like a right 'pile' of poo.

But as far as the sender knows he did, they delivered it. If something was wrong they should have brought it up straight away and provided proof before delivering it.

You would have to be a total mug to pay this extra £43.

Parcel2go and interparcel are both guilty of this scam.

I have had cases where they have tried to charge me extra on MyHermes shipments.

I sent proof of dimensions based on goods sold and they just shut up.

I think they want people to just blindly pay, if you don't they bar you from using their services.. I expect many pay due to that.
