Hi all

Looking at using some older parts to get a 'new' build going... Ive found a i5 2500k with motherboard and RAM for £160... Is that a good price and is it still reliable gear for gaming at 1080p on a budget...

In future months ill upgrade to newer parts but for now im hoping this will do

Thank you

Depends on the board and how much memory?

Clicky - for comparison of what you can get for around that money.

i7 2600K
Asus P8Z77-V LX
32GB Ballistix Sport DDR3-1600 (4x8GB)

Quality board, i7 CPU with 32Gb for £180 and this was in April - it was a great buy though.

I should have added that one of my rigs is a clocked 2500K @ 4.5GHz, 16Gb memory paired with a GTX 1070 for 1440p gaming - and it does and admirable job at 60Hz gaming with most settings on ULTRA.

Thanks bud id be using it mostly for ETS2, Project Cars (2 when released) Fifa 17/18 and PUBG

Will the 2500k do paired with a 970GTX or 1060

At 1080p it shouldn't be a problem (although i know nothing about PC 2. But i run everything on HIGH/ULTRA on the present one) - the 1060 having the better edge at 1080p.

Thanks bud I'll go ahead with that for my build... Just need an SSD and PSU but ill get them over on the MM

No worries Minib' - you must be becoming pretty proficient at building systems now.

If you manage to get all the parts at a good price it will be a great gaming machine for a budget price. Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

I had a 3570k @ 4.5 with a 980 and was ok for 1080p, marginally better cpu. Wont be maxing everything on ultra but will be a decent experience. :)

My old man had the 3570 non K and he had it years and has only just upgraded to a 6600k he loved his 3570... I will get the 2500k to tie me over until i get some funds to upgrade later on maybe after Christmas

nothing wrong with the 2500k still games very well with a gtx 970 or similar at 1080p

I saw that one sell, i did ask the seller but it had already sold :( older parts seem to hold a good price on auction sites... I will have a scout around for a 970 also
