Have you got the 6700k yet because if you haven't a Ryzen build may be a better option. Even if you still want to stick to Intel I wouldn't be buying a 6700k when the 7700k is the same price (irrelevant if you already have a 6700k though).

Haven't bought anything yet, just bought a 1070 SC, that is interesting never realised they were the same price i'll look into that now. I'm more swaying towards intel, i'm a bit of an intel fan boy!

You get more cores and more threads for less money with a AMD Ryzen system, that's where my money would be going if I was upgrading now. A Ryzen 5 1600x (6 cores/12 threads) is only £219 and a Ryzen 7 1700 (8 cores/16 threads) is only £279. You don't need such a expensive motherboard either as even the B350 boards are very good. If you are into games such as BF1 etc then Ryzen is giving a much smoother experience. AMD is back and they are competitive again while giving us more for our money at more or less every price point. Even better is the fact that all of the cpu's are overclockable.

It is not wise to buy into Intel at the moment anyway as their new Coffeelake cpu's are coming along next month and they need a new chipset meaning the current socket is a dead end (no new cpu's for it and the current cpu's will not work in the new boards).

intel i3 8350k and overclock the nuts off it or i5 8400 as they seem to offer best value for cash against AMD. i5 cant be clocked but with some speedy ram should do good. (if your after intel)

A ridiculously priced dual core, even if it does have HT is not a route I would recommend to anyone. Dual core cpu's have had their day and just cannot cope with more and more games loving more cores these days.

I have just moved from the 6700k and z170 platform to ryzen 1700 and love it. More cores more threads cheaper Motherboards. You can pick up a fully featured b350 board for about 100.
