Best movie streaming service in UK pls

The special deal I have with Sky is going to end in a couple of months, so I'm interested in what you have to say about which service is the best to go for overall? (have looked online as well, so any help would be great)

For movies it would have to be Now tv. It's about £10 a month (no contract) but can be had cheaper by paying for up to 6 months in advance.

Just get passes on ebay, you can normally get a 2 month pass for £7/8.

That's a good option but buying 6 months in advance on the Now tv site works out at £6.20 as month. Fantastic price for Sky movies.

I agree but surely £3.50/£4/month is better value

Yeah but honestly you can't tell, unless you're sitting 1ft from the tv.

Depends on your screen size. I can tell on my 65" OLED.

Sky Movies is only 1080i, there is no noticeable difference between that and 720p.

The bitrate on Now TV is pretty poor too, though. It doesn't look as good as a Sky broadcast.

Well of course it won't, Sky are hardly going to offer NowTV as cheaper & better alternative than their linear TV service.

The BEST (legal) movie platform in the UK is Sky TV, no doubt about it. Everything else is a compromise in one way or another.

Yes obviously, I was just clarifying that resolution isn't the only factor and that there is a noticeable difference between a Sky broadcast and a Now TV stream.

you could spend a while on JustWatch.com (one of the best websites and apps I've ever seen) looking at what the differing services offer catalogue wise and what might suit you. Personally, I'm very greedy with TV, so have Sky, amazon and Netflix. But then I watch tonnes of TV and movies.

Recently, Amazon were renting really new movies for just two quid to prime members, but they seem to have pushed the price back up to £4.49. Boo hiss.

They're still doing it and seem to cycle newer releases week by week, the selection should be a bit bigger though for anyone already subscribed into prime.

I was annoyed when i paid £23 for Logan in 4K only for Amazon to have a full HD copy to rent for £1.99 a day later

with 4K upscaling of non 4K content too, it looked the same as my 4K bluray.

Nothing wrong with 1080i, Sky broadcast at 1080i50 meaning they transmit 50 interlaced 1920x540 fields a second. You can fit 1080p25 into this signal giving you 25 progressive 1920x1080 full frames a second, which is plenty for anything that isn't sport and considering a film is 1080p24 you aren't losing out, only quality impact is that the bit rate is lower than that of a Blu-ray.

Regarding NowTV, you can get the boxes on offer every now and then, I got a 6 month entertainment pass one for £20. I signed up to a trial of Movies, which I then cancelled but was offered 6 months for £4 so signed up to that.

I now you said for movies but consider doing a whole switch instead. All 3 main ones(nowtv, amazon and netflix) and it'll still work out cheaper than sky. Add in on demand and cancel your tv license(unless you watch sports nowtv does not have sports on demand) for extra savings.

Well, ty for all of the helpful info and so I am going with Netflix, as Star Trek: Discovery is coming and the overall content for the price is enough to last quite awhile..

One little problem now is what steaming device would you suggest one should use?

I've looked a bit online and see there are several choices, but as with anything I would like to see if you feel there is one or two that are better than the others to use?
