Diddums' new bike decision thread

TBH the suspension on the SV isn't that bad depending on what you want from the bike.

But yeah, street triple if possible. Even the non R.

It ain't alright, anything over 80 in a bend with a bit more lean angle and it feels like the bike is going to go from under you...

You don't need an expert to see that SV has non-adjustable suspension apart from preload... I started reading, as I thought there's something wrong with my bike. Some other guys I rode with said that too, that my bike didn't behave right. That came from a bloke who did loads of trackdays and he helped a few people in the group to get theirs right. Its a budget bike anyways, I expected too much from it the more I rode it.

I also rode an R6 with an Ohlins on the rear and serviced front suspension, that would deffo get me in trouble quickly. The best fun was in the higher RPM's, taking corners at the same speeds as on the SV didn't seem to be that much of an effort. I would be scared to push it tbh, it handled like it was on rails though.

I've ridden a few of them and they've never got hairy on me. Suppose it depends on the bend.

It was alright on good surface roads, but any smaller bumps and the bike was scary to ride. Once on a road when we were lets say warming up the tyres... I got some air off one of the bumps. :o

I never had a problem with my sv650.
Depends how you ride? It was alright, for normal rideouts, but try to keep up with bikes that had fully adjustable suspension and whilst I was coming out of a corner, they were diving into the next one. :(

I might get a Harley, if I were to comeback onto the public roads. Hmm... what do you guys think?

Alright, I won't steal Didums thread. :p

Can't you just put better shocks under whatever bike? Don't they put GSXR front ends on SV's to make them good?

Yeah one of the Kwaka 636 shocks is a popular mod and yeah GSXR front end. Thats what I have done on mine, SRAD Forks and an old GSXR shock I had laying around, not that I have ridden it yet, could ride awful :D

No offence, but you need to grow up before you get back on any bike.

Being a street Rossi is all well n good until you kill yourself/someone else. No level of machinery is going to account for a lack of skill or unknown road conditions and simply put if you want to push even the most basic of bikes, you're going to need to take it to a track (to do it safely).

Is the SV a perfect bike? No. However, 95% of street riders will never push it to the edge of what the machine is capable of (legally), so to criticize it because it feels unstable cornering at illegal speeds or because you can't get your knee down quick enough only really reflects on your riding habits.

Knee down is a **** measure of cornering ability anyway.
That's why I said riding habits not riding ability. You can be an amazing rider, but it's pointless if you're in prison or dead.

My point is more than you can have your knee down in a corner, and still get overtaken by someone on the outside who doesn't have their knee down. Knee down doesn't necessarily mean heaps of corner speed.

You say a bmw 1200GS is an old man's bike yet at 20 you want a Harley? :p
Cruise... I know a few people in their early 20's on Harleys, so its not like I wouldn't have anyone to ride with. There would be no point of going out with the guys I rode with, 1st corner and there would be no sight of them.

04-05 ZX6R shock and 06 GSXR Front is the best combo apparently, ZX10R Shock which I had is the easiest to swap out as you only need to take out the battery box shield.
