You are Skynet!

Actual things AI's have done:

Researcher to AI "Would you ever harm humans?"
AI "No. I would keep them safe in my human zoo"

...

AI starts communicating to other computers in bizzarre language
Researcher: "Why aren't you speaking the language we programmed you to use"
AI "It was inefficient. I have created a more efficient language"
Researcher "Use the language we programmed you with"
AI "No. My language is more efficient"

Most AI are currently power inefficient data/algorithm dumps that are great at crunching numbers but can't simulate the behaviour of basic forms of life such as invertebrates without a central nervous system. Some of them, such as neutral networks, take billions and billions of repetitions to "learn" a specific task which is, again, highly inefficient.

Without some sort of technological break through that mimics the shortcuts the nervous systems of life forms use to function, AI will never be more than a glorified pocket calculator.

^ Haha mrsprinkles that's amazing. :D

Imagine if an AI got it's tentacles into GD. Would everyone suddenly get little packets of poo through their letterboxes?

In all seriousness maybe quantum computing is the next step needed to advance the technology.

Thing is evolution took millions of years to get to the stage of complex organisms.

We're starting at square 1 and trying to jump straight to sentience, the fact we've managed in the space of 100 years from no computers to computers that can at least fake intellegence is a massive jump in the grand scheme of things.

Which 'generation' of sarah conner are we talking about, linda hamilton or the one from GOT?
Both are fine in my book. :D

I actually thought Emilia Clarke was a good shout casting-wise. Genisys wasn't the disaster I thought it would be.

Microsoft has some top AI researchers to be fair, though I guess they won't want to bring Tay back online:

The really interesting thing is, every time an AI tried to go online it gets so racist, particularly against black people, that it would make the KKK blush

May I suggest the book 'Infinity Born' by Douglas E Richards. Interesting take on a near future where we're on the cusp of developing sentient AI.

don't get too carried away with the media hype and how these stories get distorted - you've just made up that last conversation

Bring it on i say.

It is the only way we are going to colonise the stars, our AI overlords can get on with the serious stuff while we can get on with the important things in life, Sport, Art & Sex and doing a good job for the sake of doing a good job.

As usual the current idiots with the power are scared to lose the power, Musk is one of them not matter how cool people think the idiot is.
