Tomb Raider (2018)

It looks kind of low budget but actually looks a lot better than the Angelina Jole films.

I had no idea this was even being made until yesterday when suddenly the trailer was everywhere.

Will probably never watch it, never watched the Jole films either.

^^^ Yup. Looks dreadful. I did like the bit in the trailer where she fell off a cliff like in the game. Reminded me of me playing the game.

Actress should have been Camilla Luddington who voiced the game (and who obviously looks like the game version of Lara).

Most people would be like "who?"

Having a name of Vikander attached to it immediately gives it a face people know, an actress people respect and also someone they can sell to investors to get funding. "Oh yeah, that Swedish Oscar Winning Actress!" as opposed to "Who?"

The PR people will love her, the critics already loves her and she has a fan base already. Out of the block she is WAY ahead of "who?" Camilla Luddington, despite having voiced and probably motion captured the game, this is a movie so even if they base the movie on the game, Vikander is the logical choice on every level from acting to PR to ticket sales.

Exactly. That's what the Hollywood bigwigs want, someone who is known well enough to sell the movie. There's a lot of people who go to see a movie, purely based on who is in it.

I don't have any complaints about the casting of Vikander; she's similar enough in looks to the rebooted character. In any case, the choice of actress for this movie will be the least of it's troubles. It's just another game to movie adaptation that's pretty much going to suck, because these Hollywood people never learn. They just keep repeating the same mistakes.

I saw someone post a list of writers who have worked on and reworked the script, since the rights were acquired for this movie. Those writers have worked on Cowboys and Aliens, Fright Night, Ninja Turtles and Transformers 5.

Seems to be getting panned in all reviews.. expected for a game movie but still, bit sad when it's a second attempt/reboot.

Seems like the game character was mainly based on her and she’s already played Lara. Who better? She’s more of an actress than model these days anyway.

I can see the logic, but Camilla Luddington isn't much of an actor and even her voice/motion capture performance in the TR games wasn't up to much. It's not like her voice is synonymous with the character either, compared to say Nolan North as Nathan Drake.

I know it's been mentioned but I think the casting for this is ridiculous. She looks nothing like Lara in both body and face. Given the character is famous for her impressive rack, you would have thought they'd at least try and rectify that via CGI or some casting. That sounds incredibly bad but I think if you're doing a game to movie port, you have to at least get one of the main things right, which is having an actress immediately recognisable as Lara

Honestly in this day and age of trying to be overly PC, I figured they would try for a black Lara.
