So it seems some greenpeace activists have boarded a ship carrying a load of diesel VWs and are refusing to disembark until it turns round to take the cars back Germany.

Now I dislike diesels as much as the next person but surely this is counter productive in terms of public support or even just generally appearing rational and sane?

I wonder what the consequences will be, especially in regards to 'stealing' all the keys.

Edit - I was couple of days behind it seems, they've all been arrested now.

Yesterday's news, Greenpeace do some really stupid things like running a dirty old diesel powered tug boat.
The new cleanser VW cars are supposed to replace the old dirty ones do they have no understanding!

I wonder if Greenpeace use diesel powered ships...

They are opening bonnets and putting stickers on the diesel engines. A total waste of time since the first thing a dealership is going to do is remove it.
 
Don't they realise that despite the impact on local air quality diesel cars are better for the planet in respect of climate change? That is after all how we got into this situation in the first place .
 
Navy should have sent out a paddle boat as probably all we have down there and sink their ship for being a pirate vessel :)

They aren't, NOX and the soot they kick out is way worse than co2 :/

Especialy when people think removing the DPF is a good idea.

Climate change isn't the be all and end all of environment.
Different compounds affect it by different amounts. Methane iirc is 5x more powerful than co2, no idea how box compares.


And idiot group being idiots. Non shocker.
 
Idiots. I'd love to know what their day job is, if they have one.

Even if they were succesful in getting that ship to leave, it's just going to come back again.. Double the emissions!
 
Im sure that cherry picker they're using to hang the banners is a nice clean petrol.

Gotta love this whole charade, i'm sure these clowns would applaud me for moving from a horrible toxic 1.9tdi that did 65mpg to a nice clean 2.5 petrol that does about 30 and definately doesnt have massive clouds of steam come out the back on a cold morning.

Also those clothes they're wearing definately look like natural fibres and not oil based synthetics.
 

Yes but NOX and NO2 are many times worse than Co2 as a greenhouse gas AND are dangerous gases, on top of that plants won't absorb them like co2.

If you combined it all on a chart, we'd see run of the mill diesels making old V8s look good.

I suspect their day jobs include telling people they are vegan, hugging trees and avoiding soap

NOX and NO2 are not particularly persistent (In particular NOX) They are reactive gasses that rapidly "Wash" out of the air which is why they are only really a significant issue in busy city centres.

CO2, OTOH, will remain in the atmosphere for a very long time
