thinking of changing from my iPhone 6 to a Galaxy Note as I do more internet based things, emails, messages etc so the larger screen would be a big plus

What note would be the equivalent to an iPhone 6?

How do the notes fare? Seen some note 4s at good prices

The notes are very expensive and unless buying the current version (note 8) then you'll be buying something that has already reached EoL in terms of software support (security updates etc).
There are many other alternatives out there to the note 8 - why not the iPhone 6+ / 7+ ?

Don't get a Note 4 for starters. Absolutely a excellent performing device but it has memory issues down the road and those that have owned them for a good number of years have been seeing theirs fail with the e_mmc error (google it or see the Note 4 thread on this forum) for the past year or so. Quite literally the storage chips on them just bail out for some oddball reason, which is a shame. Buying one now means it WILL fail sooner rather than later.

On android you'd be spoilt for choice on a large screen device. Depending on what your budget is an S8 or Pixel with their high res screens is a good bet as you can see more of a webpage etc. The cameras on these devices are superb too.
If you want something at a lower budget range then the One Plus 3, 3T or 5 has a large screen albeit at a lower 1080p resolution and are very good for what you get hardware/performance wise.

6s plus is a decent sized screen, and still quite a respectable phone imo, obviously theres much more choice with Android, and arguable better hardware, depends what you are looking to get from a phone. The S7 edge is prob where my money would go, perfect sized screen, and the price is good now in the used market.
