40,105 people killed or injured (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34996604) out of 326,000,000 people in 2015 (https://www.census.gov/popclock/) is 0.01% of the population affected by gun death or injury. Doesn't sound disproportionate to me in a country which allegedly has 1 gun for every person.
Likely an assault rifle or light machine gun with a large magazine or belt feed - even with unreliable drum mags, etc. in youtube videos they've often managed 2-3 mag dumps fine between ones where it jams so not necessarily an indication of anything.
With the distance involved to the target highly unlikely to be a smaller gun.
Likely an AR/AK/M16 type, fully automatic with a standard magazines of 25-30 rounds.
Not a LMG, if it was, the stream of fire would be much longer and almost none stop, far more deaths and injuries too.

Don't bite the messenger, am just posting reports when I see them. Will update if they become confirmed or turn out to be misinformation.

Few more days, am sure the LVPD will show a photo of all the weapons, ammo and equipment he has like they normally do.
standard magazine wouldn't allow for some of the burst of fire that can be heard in the clips
also perfectly possible (and far more effective) for him to have used even smaller bursts with a machine gun
I watched tons of videos of him shooting, the sound of gunfire matches the magazine capacity of a standard magazine, not to say! He couldn't have a drum magazine, he might had one or two of them.
One thing that is weird, reports so far seem to suggest that the guy wasn't really known to be into guns, for him to suddenly be in a room with 10x fully automatic weapons, out of the blue - isn't only weird, but it must have been damn expensive, how/why would someone just finance that amount of hardware, (unless he stole it all??) and why would someone who isn't really known to law enforcement suddenly decide to go to all of this,
It is pretty weird,
These things are always pretty weird. They are by definition weird. It's weird to shoot hundreds of people at a music festival, weird to crash a car into people then stab them, weird to drive a truck through a crowd, weird to fly a plane into a building, weird to plant bombs...One thing that is weird, reports so far seem to suggest that the guy wasn't really known to be into guns, for him to suddenly be in a room with 10x fully automatic weapons, out of the blue - isn't only weird, but it must have been damn expensive, how/why would someone just finance that amount of hardware, (unless he stole it all??) and why would someone who isn't really known to law enforcement suddenly decide to go to all of this,

What gun laws does Nevada have?
Nevada has some of the least stringent gun laws in the United States.
People are allowed to carry weapons and do not have to register themselves as a gun-owner.
Background checks are done when people buy guns, but they are also allowed to sell them privately.

Depends - many light machineguns will support a box or drum magazine which are typically mostly available in 100 round variety in the US and likewise actual belt feeds tend to be 100 round strips - only if its using disintegrating links would it be more likely to be more sustained - even then longer than 100 rounds tends to be a bit difficult to manage without an extra support person - if you watch a video of someone shooting 500 rounds from a box using links they usually need someone helping to smoothly feed after a bit.
BNL News are reporting that the gunman was a multi millionaire, owned two planes. Which would explain how he could afford to spend 70k in playing games before he started to shoot and how he could afford all the firearms.
