Why do people buy high octane petrol?

Because my engine runs better on it. It is supposed to be run on 97.

I put Momentum 99 in the T-Sport and Shell 95 in the Bimmer. :p

V-Power is too expensive around here.

I have only put 95 in mine twice. Once when doing the NC500 when it was all I could get and once at Brunters when I ran dry so used their onsite pump. Can't say I noticed much if any difference, though can't say I was looking either.

Your car probably adapts to fuel quality I'd imagine. And since its an R8 V10, you could probably run it on moose **** and it would still be quick. :p

I used to fill my E60 M5 with Asda 95, didn't really notice any difference for day to day driving.

I used to religiously fill up my old Corolla T-Sport with V-Power, I only put Momentum in this one because V-Power is now something stupid like 12P a litre more expensive than Momentum.

And people are here putting supermarket 95 in their V10's. :(

Least I put in (actually my go to) is Sainsbury's 97 Ron stuff. Every now and again I'll put in a full tank of V-power. I've never put in 95 in my C30 ever since I got it. I once drove into ASDA only to drive off again when they didn't have any premium stuff.

having to run my sti on esso 97 atm cos the shell garage is being rebuilt. once its built i'll be running vpower again. there is also a bp garage but ultimate cost about £9000 per ml for some reason and even normal 95 is 2p less than vpower was dont understand why anyone goes to that garage unless they are literally empty.

All these amazing cars and people want to save a few pennies on petrol...

When it struggles to do 20mpg on the motorway you get bored of spending more than necessary to sit at 75mph! To be fair I only started filling it up at Asda when I was living in London, Asda was local and all my journeys were basically sat in traffic or on the motorway where you're never going to notice even if it's 20hp down. Plus at that point I knew I was moving to the US and would be selling it :o

if you are only doing 75 in a v10 m5 then you must have lost a lot of power :p it should be going 175mph, unless someone else is in the outside lane then you do whatever speed they do 3 inches behind them till the move out the way?

You can't do that any more, don't forget half the population has turned their car into a mobile surveilance vehicle by fitting a dashcam so they're ready to report any minor indiscretion like forgetting to indicate when changing lanes or going through an amber traffic light to the police and upload to Youtube.

Is it PPP? I'd err on the side of caution with 97 in an STi. Subaru state 98 ONLY on the petrol cap. Won't really be a problem if you're easy on it, but as soon as you start pushing it you'll be at risk of detting.

Wr1 says 97 minimum in my wr1 manual thing. :)

True :(

Who cares about that. For it to be considered as actual evidence there is a lot of red tape.

Yes but he filmed it himself and did it loads of times. Keeping the full footage on his phone etc.

They aren't going to invest time in investigating one instance of someone doing something silly, filmed by some random guy. Otherwise half of youtube would have criminal records.

I ran my Golf R purely on Tesco Ultimate (98)
The only issue I found was that I had a few close calls of running out of fuel when I wasn't near a station with higher rating fuel. I was also late for work a few times due to travelling further in the morning to the Tesco garage.
