Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Gtx 1060 3gb but cannot connect the power supply from my PSU. It says an 8 pin connector is required but the 8 pin power connected on my PSU doesn't fit. The shape of the psu connected doesn't match up to the GPU connector. The psu is a ******** black edition 750w modular. Can anyone advise please? I have tried to attach pics of both the GPU and psu connectors but can't work out how to upload them. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

Are you sure you are trying to plug the correct cable in? A pci-e power cable will usually be a 6+2 pin cable and is usually a dual lead that has a pair of 6+2 pin plugs. If it's a single 8 pin plug then it's probably the EPS 12v lead that is supposed to be plugged into the motherboard around the top left corner above the cpu socket.

Thanks for replying, your probably right, it's the only 8 pin connector and it won't fit. I must be able to buy a cable to go from my psu to the GPU though yeah?

Use a magnifier to double check the square / chamfered blocks are correct. do you have a 6+2 pin
are you missing any cables

Yeah, the square and chamfered blocks do not correspond. It's an 8 pin that I have been looking at. I had a look on the psu suppliers website which showed what the pcie 6+2 connectors look like and I can't see that type of connecter.

I also just upgraded my GPU yesterday MSI GeForce GTX 1060 GAMING X 6144MB big jump for me from a nvidia 570, also using a 2600k ga-z68x-ud3h-b3, anyway i digress, i have just had a look at the PSU you are using, you need to find the cables that are marked PCI-E, the plug is red they should be clearly labelled, the plug can be split to fit a 6 pin socket leaving 2 pins out, but you need all the pins which it makes 8 pins.

Apologies for no pics, I've taken a few already and tried to post them. It asks for a URL? Don't know how to upload them? I've tried to copy and paste but won't let me. I had a look at psu manufactures website and one of the pictures showed the cables that came with it and can see the pcie cables you guys are talking about. Deffo not connected to my psu. I'm looking for the bag of cables that came with my system to see if I can find them.

It's easy to find convertor cables on the 'other site'. Likely if your psu was modular you may well have the cables necessary, either way, you can easily find a solution. On the 'other site' you can find just about every combination to attach to your psu and they are all quite cheap.. good luck.

Upload them there (green "New Post" button), move your mouse over the pic till you see a dropdown arrow appear top-right of the pic, select "Get Share Links" and copy and paste the "BBCode (Forums)" link into here.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to reply and your advice. My mate had a spare cable and I've connected it up, downloaded the drivers and its all up and running. All I need to do now is upgrade my monitor. I've been looking at different monitors around £150-200 and fancy this one *** No Competitor Linking *** Anyone recommend any others that might be better for around same price?

No links to competitors, that monitor is very very small the stand doesn't help as it's none adjustable so it's quite low too saw it in person at my old job which is why I opted for the 29" version.

I agree with the last post that if you want ultra-wide then don't go for 25", it really looks small. 29" is the minimum in my humble opinion.
