Long weekend destinations?

I know its mainly personal preference but Im after some ideas for a long weekend? Ive been looking at New York as we loved it the previous time weve been but do like to try new places out.

Any places worth checking out? Looking to do the usually stuff, eat, drink and possibly some shopping but not essential.
Went to skegness 80's weekender couple of weeks ago

Belgrade - interesting city with lots of things to see and do. Considered a young and “happening” City if you like partying. Can hire a car and drive around the countryside and visit cities like Nova Sad.

Romania - fly into Bucharest and hire a car before heading to the old cities of Braşov and Sibiu and the Făgăraş Mountains. Can also stop off at “Dracula’s” castle and find some bears. If you go in Winter there’s also a ski resort at Poiana Braşov.

Nice.- can visit Monaco one day then drive up to the hills around it and stay there. Lots of old hilltop villages to look at, or just stay in Nice.

We did these on long(er) weekends, normally flying out on a Thursday night (after work). Depends where you are they are relatively cheap direct flights.

I know people will laugh, but have you thought of Thanet/Margate/Whitstable/Broadstairs? There are some serious hidden gems there and the Mrs and I have an amazing time when we go!

My thread was first :p

Amsterdam is a good short break, as is Dublin.
Did both 3 weeks and 2 weeks back :)

What about Boston OP? Not as busy as NYC or as big, but great place to kick back, walk around, eat, drink and shop and a few good things to see and the shortest flight to the USA. Also Toronto is worth a long weekend (for me it needs to be 4 nights to justify the flying time).

Rhyl? I know a lot of things have closed down of late there, but I think it needs our support to bring it back to the place it once was.

Can't believe I read that right, I must have got it wrong, think I'll go to SpecSavers.

Anywhere in Northern Europe

Kiev is still very very cheap, quite a fair bit to do, the people are OK the younger generation are really nice, the older generation might as well be Scottish and just really grumpy and depressed and much preffered it when you could get only one flavour of ice cream.

Vilnius is nice, plenty to do, but it normal prices.

You could try Tallinn and a day trip to Helsinki and do two countries, which is what i would recommend and really good fun :)

France/Spain/Italy/Spain is just a rip off imo.

You forgot Riga, a good weekend destination, but with respect, particularly when you throw shade on France and Spain, you sound as if you'd love to eat at the Savoy Grill, but can only afford greasy spoon prices.

Hull, city of culture.

I don't think you're taking this seriously, personally
I'd say Murcia, Spain, or Toulouse, France.

Rhyl
Bognor
Skeggy
Newquay
Yarmouth

You neither.

There are a couple of good restaurants in Whitstable, agreed, but the hidden gems of Thanet, (Thanet? Really?), Margate and Broadstairs are so well hidden it would take longer than a long weekend to find
them, unless you mean the A299 to the M2 then back to civilisation is a gem?

I love eastern Europe, plenty of nice old cities there that 3-4 days will be a good enough time to explore them on. Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius is great options (and pretty cheap) up in the Baltic. I also love Czech Republic and will be going back to Prague in a couple of weeks time. Budapest is also nice. I recently were in Sofia (Bulgaria) and that was a nice city, but not sure I would spend a long weekend there. Romania is supposed to be very nice, I haven't been there yet but I'm planning to head there in May next year for my birthday.

I went for few this year, Rome was great a lot of walking, Porto nice scenery ,lots of alcohol tasting. And typical for quick gateway - Barcelona
