Hi all,

I want to upgrade to 1440p for gaming (low/mid settings fine) and hit 60fps.

relevant PC specs

i7-2700k (4.4 GHz)
GTX 1060 6GB
16 GB RAM (DDR3-1800)

As part of a case upgrade I am getting a 240mm watercooling AIO for the CPU, so that should OC to 4.7 GHz (it is stable but too hot right now).

Problem: I JUST bought the 1060 and am already concerned it will struggle at 1440p. I also run two screens so I can browse/watch videos at the same time, so it is potentiall 1440p gaming + 1080p youtube videos. The setup is fine at 1080p+1080p right now.

Will this be okay or should I try to swap it for a 1070? Or is there a risk my old CPU will bottleneck things?

Can't afford a CPU/mobo upgrade right now and not convinced it is cost effective anyway.

Thanks for any help
Mike

You should be fine I've got a i5 4690 at 4ghz and the 1060 runs great at 1440p plays nearly all games at ultra/high with a consistent 60fps

I've had different experience with 1060gtx at 1440p - would normally chose 1070 for 1440p >129hz or 1080p > 165hz screens .

What's games do you play ? Get some Google going on those games, oc3d.net go great game reviews with hardware !
And hopefully other members will input their views and experiences

Thank you I wasn't aware of that website. I'm only planning to use 60Hz screens though, typical games are total war series or assassin's creed. 144Hz outside my budget!

Thanks for sharing your experiences.
