Hey guys,

I am going to Thailand (bangkok and Phuket) as part of my trip around asia, I will be in bangkok 5 days and phuket 5 days. Id just like to get some info from any of you that may of been, perhaps some recommendations, Bars, restaurants, activities, attractions, anything you would recommend!

I had a look in the archive for a few threads but they are quite out of date now.

Any info would be appreciated :)

Do you have to go to Bangkok and Phuket?

I went to Bangkok for three days, it was enough. How old are you? Do you want to get drunk?

Spent ~3 weeks travelling round Thailand last year. We weren't in Bangkok for long, but on our first day had a private tour from http://www.thaitourguide.com/_index.php with 'Mr George' which was great.

Is your accommodation booked in Bangkok? I'd consider flying up to Chiang Mai and spending sometime there too. Internal flights are cheap, and it's not far (you can fly from Chiang Mai to Phuket)

Don't go to the two worst places in the country! Skip out of Bangkok after a day or two and go the Chang Mai and don't even stop the taxi in Phuket it is one of the grimmest places on earth!

Unusual stop choices, I'm currently planning a trip there and have been told by almost everyone to avoid Phuket at all costs and that you don't need anywhere near that amount of time in Bangkok.

From my research and with the time you have I would suggest something like Bangkok (2 nights), Chang Mai (4 nights), island (4 nights). There's dozens of great islands so just take your pick, I will be visiting Phi Phi and Ko Phangang.

Personally i would do 1 night in Bangkok, then fly straight to Koh Samui. Do 9 nights on 2 or 3 of the islands then fly home.

If I went back I would do Pai and Koh Lanta. I did Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Koh Chang, Railey, Tonsai and Phuket a few years ago. Out of all the places in the world, my favorite place is Koh Phangan. Incredible parties, local markets and sports, exploration of beaches and the island as its not too big and the most chilled out place in the world. It almost brings me to tears (of happiness) how great it was.

Yep, Koh Lanta was great. Wish we'd spent more time there. Stayed in Ao Nang (not great beaches after staying in Koh Lanta!) and got the boat to Railey. Great for rock climbing, but again better beaches in Koh Lanta!
