Hello
I'm a new member and first time poster, hoping to draw from your wealth of knowledge!
My 13yr old is looking for a graphics card upgrade, he enjoys a variety of games but typically plays COD, Destiny, Assassin's Creed, Doom and so on.

PC is an Asus M32CD, purchased last Christmas.
Motherboard: H110-M/M32CD/DP_MB, with an i7-6700, 16Gb Ram.
Graphics: Asus GT730 2GB
PSU: AcBel pca022-za6g 300w

Monitor is Asus VS248HR, so mid spec 1080p.

It looks a little tight inside the case, I'm guessing dimensions and power consumption will probably dictate the upgrade path.
Again, I'm guessing that a GTX 1070/1080 is probably overkill, so have been looking at Zotac GTX 1060 mini 6GB.
I figure that a £250 card can be upgraded twice as often as a £500 card, so this is perhaps a sensible way to go??
Budget is £200-£400ish

All opinions and advice appreciated :)

The problem here is the PSU. It's only 300W, and Acbel is no Seasonic. What form factor is the PSU? Replace that with a beefier quality PSU and a GTX 1060 or 1070 will do just fine. Note that the GTX 1070 Ti is imminent which should push GTX 1070 prices down a bit.

1060 and new PSU would be my choice.

Will need to check ASUS have not done a Dell though and you can actually fit a new PSU in there/it doesn't have cruddy proprietary connectors/components.

Yes.

Seems okay going by this vid, normal ATX PSU added no problem:

Maybe a case fan for the front to cool the GPU a bit. The mounting looks like 80 or 92mm? You could measure.

You have enough in the budget for a quality PSU, if you don't mind spending, and the slightly better (for cooling) Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB Windforce:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £376.98
(includes shipping: £11.10)

80 or 92mm depending on your findings.

You don't need more than 450W but that PSU has a ten year warranty and can carry on into any next build (or two). A Corsair CX450M (grey label*, semi-modular) would be fine if you prefer and can be found for under £50.

* Don't get the older green label variety.

damn good fans, only otherones that quiet are be quiet! and are either costly or hard to find!

would have with what these guys have suggested for fans, are othres out there but are loud :(

En Kaasbroodje, welkom by die mal huis. Waar kom jy vandaan? Daar is slegs ongeveer drie lande in die wêreld wat die naam "Kaasbrood" sal gebruik. Of ten minste, iets soortgelyk. Die eerste keuse is waarskynlik Nederland.

I'm the skinflint that never had enough cash and g=had to heep sons pc and mine coNstantly updated to the minimum
for baldurs, gate, diablo, neverwinter nights, dragon age etc, and I'M PRETTY SURE 1050TI IS THE RIGHT ANSWER HERE,

Just buy a 1050Ti dude. Make sure it has no PCIE power connectors as some of the uberclockable ones do have them. It'll run fine on your 300W PSU as it is a very low power draw card. No need to blow money on a new PSU right now.

The fact that when you look up the spec and asus has options for a 960/970/380 and up to a 500w psu then that should ideally tell you it’s atx form and what would be good in that system.

Even if you got a gtx 750ti that runs off the pcie slot and can run on 300w(had a non ti on a 250w) because of the cheap bran it would be viable to change the psu even if it was for just a 300w of a good brand.
