Hi guys,
After getting rid of my last self built PC a few years ago I've decided to build another. As I've been out of the the loop for quite a while I thought I'd try and get some advice here on my potential build.
This will be a fairly budget build for around £700 (not inc. monitor, kb & mouse) and I'm looking to play GTA V, Cities Skylines, Civ 6 and a few racing games (I have Project Cars and may pickup Forza 7) @ 60fps 1080p on high-ultra settings.
I started looking at an i3 build but then started reading all the hype about this new Ryzen chip from AMD... so, as these looked pretty good, with good OCing potential and a great price I thought I'd base my build on a Ryzen 3 1200. I plan to OC to ~3.9Ghz which according to many many YT videos I've watched seems pretty straightforward even on the stock cooler.
Therefore my build is as follows:
My basket at Overclockers UK:
I've already been bought the Ryzen 3 1200 as a gift so that's none negotiable now but I do have a good upgrade path for the future if / when required.
RAM - went for the 3200mhz for a bit of future proofing. Mobo has 4 slots so I can add another 8GB later on if needed.
Case - it goes well with my office furniture and seems to have good reviews so I'm pretty much set on this.
HDD - started with an M.2 SSD to avoid migration later on with a plan to add further storage when I have the funds, this might be a secondary bigger SSD or old school 2T HDD.
The parts I'm not so clear on are the Mobo (a B350 is a must for OC) and whether to go for a GTX 1060 6GB or go AMD with an RX 580 8GB.
From what I can gather the 1060 6GB and RX 580 8GB are pretty much on a par for games and are around the same price however I'm thinking that as FreeSync monitors seem a fair bit cheaper then the nVidea equivalents the RX580 might be the better choice for future proofing? I currently have an LG 23" 1080p monitor however I'm sure I'll want a bigger one at some point next year when funds allow. Maybe even a 1440p monitor. Will the 580 perform better @ 1440p having more VRAM?
Any thoughts appreciated.
Thanks
